i was promised a summer festival? there's no summer festival :(
It could have been so good with a little more content and flavour. NPC are creat, premise is good, even encounter table is no bad, but there is too little to make any danger serious or to make pc really care about tidewater. A festival would cure all that imho. As it is it looks unfinished, and this HURTS my poor festival loving game master soul, because premises are SO good.
Hey! So on the one hand, I was pulling on a very small string that Yochai has in the Warden section of the rules about various holidays and such.
On the other hand, I too am sad that I didn't have enough room to put in an actual festival. I am plagued by "can't-shut-the-fuck-up-itis" - but if it makes you feel better, I do intend to do a fuller version of this when I have a chance!
The gimmick of this adventure of course are the horny crabs. The backstory is a bit generic, but the enroused McGuffins and the NPCs being a bit goofy (NPCs who do not know, what they don’t know, the four elder man) make it much more endearing. It lacks direction, though. In ten days something specific must happen, which the players only learn, if they didn’t do something that seems to be the theme of the story (crushing citin). The bad end comes off left field - where does that cyclops come into this?
I like this submission for it’s people, but to run it it would perhaps need something like a timetable with fixed events happening on different days to move things along.
The cyclops is, unfortunately, an extremely obtuse pun - the scientific name for the North American horseshoe crab is limulus polyphemus. Polyphemus, of course, was the cyclops in The Odyssey.
Very much agree that a timetable to break things out would make this a lot more legible.
This is a good jaunt! And, I can see a lot of light-hearted fun with this.
Great work, loving the local festival with a dark looming threat!
Super fun location, and really well-written. Great salty seaside location with some salty denizens as well!
Really funny, good writing =D. Reminds me of the Urbana Oyster Fest, which I think is pretty Appendix N.
Oh man, Urbana Oyster Fest! I feel like I've been there though it was AGES ago. I love that Virginia has so many weird small-town shellfish-related festivals though, I feel like there's a solid 2-3 month period you could go from town to town across the state and find a few one every weekend and still not hit them all.
I like it's a simple and straightforward adventure, I love the 3-1 table! This was fun to read. Awesome stuff!
There are a few typographical errors because I was in extreme panic mode trying to get it finished here at GenCon, but nothing that keeps you from getting through it. Hope everyone who reads it at least gets a good chuckle!
