Very tight and dynamic hex crawl that can be used in any adventure really.

I haven't read TROIKA! yet, I'm waiting for my book

What I thought worked well

  • The concept is great; pocket dimension, wandering warriors, goblins!
  • I like the mix of fixed and random events. Creates narrative but also suprise
  • Quite flexible and open objective

What I thought could be improved

  • Maybe I'm slow but it took me a moment to realise why it jumped from 1 to 5 and so on. Not a big issue but a small blurb like "The following non-green hexes are predetermined"

Thanks for reading and I appreciate the constructive feedback!

The location numbering is definitely confusing and in a future edit I plan to reorder them. That was just the way I ordered them when writing the module to help my brain group them together (like conceptualizing where the little stream flows and so on). Concerning Goblins, when you get your TROIKA book and read the entry on Goblins, their presence may make more sense. Goblins, in Troika canon, are the "vanguards of civilization", continually expanding their inter-dimensional labyrinth and expanding the multiverse while simultaneously being pests. They occasionally get stranded during these forays and "become feral".

Oh amazing! With that context I'll update my feedback, thanks!

i love gardens.  And hexflowers. And troika.  And everything else in this little, funny, unexpected location.  Uncannyly non confontational, this entry take the an orignal turn to the pulp material. I feel understood.

Developer

Thank you so much! Sounds like we have some common affinities!

I'm very fond of pocket dimensions and confusing gardens so enjoyed this a lot. I love the Dining Club Eater as well. I do like the paladin too, he's very tragic, but for the titular character he feels a little bit incidental to the rest of the module. Do agree with others it's a tricky title though!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for reading and for your feedback! I get how the Paladin could seem incidental, as he is encountered randomly in the garden, though his wanderings directly affect the garden. I wanted to include a table of hooks for the module but ran out of space and time.

The description of the Blanched Legion is key to understanding the Paladin's significance. What time-frozen message the Paladin is carrying, why he is being hunted, and what the implications of the message being delivered may be are up for interpretation, in-line with the Troika's implied setting and flavor.

Love to see modules for Troika! “Locals generally just pretend it isn’t there…” is a great line. The Paladins of the Blanched Legion are very cool and seem fun to run! And of course the trigger happy goblins make for a fun encounter.

Really liked the concept, it was fun to read. I'm not familiar with Troika, but I love that this adventure location is hidden in a city and ignored by the locals like a twisted urban legend. The mien table below the Paladin's stats really do a good job of humanizing it without explicitly telling the players what's up. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for reading and sharing your reflections! Mechanically, Troika is an adaptation/retroclone of Fighting Fantasy.  NPC and monster Miens are baked-in to that system. I wanted to write full Mien tables for the other NPCs in this adventure but ran out of room.

Troika is also the name of a city at the center of the game's implied weird science-fantasy setting. Troika city bears some resemblance to the city of Sigil from the d&d 2e setting Planescape, filtered through the thematic tone of writers like Terry Pratchett, Gene Wolfe and M. John Harrison.

Big F for the paladin trapped in the garden, still trying to carry out his duty with diligence. I Hope adventurers playing this module will make him aware of his situation and have him rest in peace

Developer

Thank you for your compassion for this lost soul!

Always nice to see a Troika adventure. This is well-written hex flower that does fit quite neatly into Troika city. The writing and evocative description are on-point and exactly 'Troika' enough to make it really hum. I think this would be a lot of fun to play.

Developer

Thank you! It is encouraging to hear I was able to convey a bit of that Troikan essence in the writing.

I love a hex flower! Nice work with a pretty challenging title. You took something that sounds a bit awkward and gave it a real vibe.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad it landed well for some folks. This is encouraging feedback.

Troika! Sooo excited when I see things made for Troika.

Developer(+1)

I have been running Troika games for a couple of years now and I love it. Some of the most fun I've ever had with this hobby! I plan to make more adventures, hopefully my design skills will improve with them.

Submitted(+1)

Yesss! You should definitely make more adventures!

Troika! I really liked that intro description of the blanched legion and that cover art is banging :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! It's a Brother's Dalziel engraving from the 1850s.

Nice to see Troika represented.  Arresting paladin image.  Thanks.

Thank you!
