This is a really cool and unique idea. I really enjoyed mixing the combinations. I wish there was a indicator or animation to reloading the shell cause I didn't know when I could fire or no and I was spamming it.

Nice to see another shotgun game! I really enjoyed the aspect of creating your own arsenal, and having to actually pour the vials was a nice touch. I liked the potential of different elements having different effects, such as needing fire to trigger barrels, and I wished there were more direct interactions like this. I found it a bit frustrating to dodge with most of the level being small platforms and constantly fell, I think the game would benefit from a "recovery" move tech like a small double jump or dash (but I thoroughly enjoyed the cloud vial once I found it!). Excellent work, team!

Thank you for the input! I also agree that the movement can be a little weird sometimes. I like the idea of having ignitable interactables. That would be an amazing touch. We've found that the could powder is definitely the most fun :D

Pretty cool idea with mixing potions for shells. And there is a ton of level design. The movement could be made a little smoother since it was a little finicky holding space to jump and just barely missing platforms, and falling all the way down to the bottom of the level.

Thanks for the input! We agree with the movement, it can be a little bit finicky sometimes. <3

Love it! Why does magic and guns have to be separate

Harry Potter discovery guns : r/memes

Developer

That's what I'm saying!!

I love this mechanic and the aesthetic reminds me of the era of flash I grew up on! I do wish there was a much lower limit on what you can put inside a shell so you have to diversify more. I really liked how the cloud was more for movement and others like fire were good for damage. It reminds me a bit of a game called "Fishards" which is a wizard game where you are fish and cast elemental spells by mixing them together.

Developer

haha yes, the flash era was huge inspiration. I'll have to check Fishards out soon!

I'm curious what you mean by lower limit: like, total? or just per-powder? Anyway, thanks so much for playing!

Submitted

Perhaps total, but I meant specifically each shell can maybe only hold like 1-3 shell dusts and each individual dust is stronger. I think that way you can make an informed choice like "do I want a 3/3 fire or 2/3 fire 1 water for X reason instead of just sort of throwing it all in there which is what I felt like I was doing. It was satisfying to pour them though!

I do quite like the idea of essentially making powder layers much larger than they are currently. We originally had different ideas for what kinds of powders would do, and how they'd modify each other in the shell, but scope creep'll getcha. Thanks for the suggestion, though; if we continue with the project, that'll definitely be something to consider. :)

Really cool concept! Enjoyed the mechanic of having to make different kinds of shells using the drops from each run, would love to see this be turned into a full game. Also, the music, sfx, and art were super on point and made everything feel polished, great work!

Developer

Yeah! It might be interesting to use the mechanic in a different gameplay loop. I'm glad you liked the sensory components, as well. Thank you!

I think innovation is the strong point of this game. It might be interesting to develop it once the jam is over.

Developer

I agree. It's a neat idea, and I'm glad we got to take a crack at it for this jam. Thank you!
