Gotcha. It might be easier to hire freelancers to commission custom art, to use assets, or to collaborate with artsy friends than find a publisher nowadays. That’s what I’ve done anyway. For future visual novels, Ren’Py might be a better bet than Visual Novel Maker.

Furthermore, it’s better to write a visual novel as a screenplay than a full-on descriptive book due to the visual nature of the medium and thus not needing to say as much, for less is more. You can also consider making a bunch of short stories and self-publishing them as an anthology or self-publishing a visual novel on here or on Steam, whether it’s an updated version of this story or another one.

Both game developers and aspiring authors struggle with getting publisher deals. So, don’t be afraid to take a bet on yourself. Otherwise, if you can’t get beta readers or playtesters, proofreading and playtesting out a story and visual novel yourself can be important before submission to make sure everything is readable and working. Finally, game jams and feedback from family and friends can also be a good way to gauge interest and product viability.

Sorry for the harsh criticism in my original post, by the way, but I tried to be constructive so that you can succeed next time around, whether it’s updating this visual novel, making a new one, or creating other stories in general. So, good luck with any and all future creative endeavors.
