This is very cute. I like how everyone and everything is doing a little dance in the rhythm of the catchy background music. :D
I played the game on Firefox on Linux, it works without issues. It also works flawlessly on Chromium on Linux. I have no idea how will it run on another OS (I know most people still use Windows for some reason).
The game is very fun to play! Sadly, I am not skillful enough to progress far, so this is as far as I managed (I have an idea how to do it, I just lack the skill to time it right):
It seems to be across the board with Windows users, at least that's my current guess until told otherwise. Unfortunately I don't currently have a windows system to debug the issue. It hasn't been updated since just shortly after the submission deadline where I fixed a couple of other small but game breaking bugs.
It looks great from the screenshots, but unfortunately I was not able to run it in Chrome on windows. It actually appeared to freeze my entire chrome instance and I had to kill it every time I tried to start the game...
Played through the opening and the charm won me over instantly — the egg hatching into "HI, I'M A DUCK!" followed by "much of a talker, are ya?" gave the whole thing so much personality, and that little duckling portrait is adorable. Really expressive spritework for 64x64. One small thing from my playthrough: I instinctively reached for the arrow keys before spotting the WASD prompt, so supporting both would smooth the first ten seconds for folks like me. Lovely, warm jam entry — congrats on shipping it!
Really enjoyed this - the lively, polished spritework give a lovely atmosphere and the mechanic is supremely well done.
Although, the game bugged out while I was playing. (after I got the 3rd ducky I softlocked myself by walking directly onto some water in the next room, setting up a checkpoint there.) Also, I feel like the playful graphics and sound kind of betray the game's sometimes bizarre difficulty. Some of the rooms were kind of difficult to visualize and solve intelligently, and I just kind of walked into roads or lillypads until the level was beatable. And playing the same 10 second song for the whole game did get a little annoying...
With those criticisms in mind I'd be surprised if you don't do very well in this jam. I'm just a nitpicker.
Thanks so much for playing and for the feedback. My girlfriend did the same softlock and I replayed the game up to that point for her. I thought I'd gotten rid of all of them, but apparently not. Yes, further design work was needed to communicate all sorts of things to the player in a more thoughtful way. I'm hiding behind the my-game-is-retro-and-therefore-unfairly-difficult defense.
