Briefness as a virtue at its best. The less you say the more you risk to say too little or to be too obscure. Here is a brief but complete and terse adventure, with outstanding map art and perfet use of informational space. Best maps in the jam so far, imho. Great entry!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the kind words! I am so glad the brevity resonated with you, every word was chosen carefully. Thanks again!

Beautiful maps, always happy to see verticality in dungeons. Terse but succint keys. Great use of Public Domain art for the cover. Well done!
As an aside: I appreciate it when authors include a printer friendly version!

I enjoy the brevity of the text that still manages to do some good amount of worldbuilding. The statue trap feels very “Home Alone” and it could lead to fun moments at the table. Nicely done!

While I really enjoy the art style for the maps, I’ve been having some trouble understanding the edges and connections of room 2. I see the secret passage and the stairs to 5, but is it meant to have an opening to 1? or is it contiguous to 1?

Thanks for the comment and the feedback! I appreciate it. There is meant to be a cave mouth implied by these lines here.

Obviously, it could be more clear, that's good feedback for the next design. Thanks again!

Very well written, there is very little that's extraneous here (surprisingly rare given the space constraints!). That said it would be nice to see more development of both the Sea Witch and the spider-folk warriors, in order to make this feel more rounded out. Both maps are very pretty but I'd like a bit more visual highlighting of how the different areas connect, particularly in the Tower. It seems like in general players would enter from the top of the tower and go down, but that makes the statue trap fairly trivial to circumvent if I'm understanding it correctly? Which is a shame because it's fun. Otherwise though I did really like a lot of the elements in this - the matchbox warning, the root goblins and their flammable warrens, and the tile crawlers especially.

Developer

Thank you so much for the comment! You're probably right about the trap; I challenged myself to design a trap for the jam, even though it's way outside my norm. Thanks again for reading!

Slick, evocative writing and overall just looks like a fun time! If I had a nitpick, it would be the layout could use a bit of tidying up. Little adjustments to the margins, alignment, and font I think would do wonders. Great map too!

Beautiful maps, clear design, really fun writing.

This is clean, clear, and well-executed! I wish there were some illustrations of the various creatures - is the apex predator a big bird? What kind? Or is it something nastier?

If the spirit moves you, please do expand this into more thorough and leisurely material.

Developer

Hey, thanks for the comment! Yes, Yager-yugh was envisioned as a giant bird. Usually in Into the Odd when a single creature is a Detachment that's the case. I really appreciate your interest, I could see myself doubling the page count and adding some more maps and illustrations at the end of the jam. This has been a great opportunity for feedback!

This was great! I love the cover and all the art, and the theme/setting are really unique. It’s a fun dungeon, a cool map to explore (though would love to see more about the other locations if you’d had more space), and “Yager-yugh” is incredibly Appendix N. My only real suggestions would be to see if you could export a higher-res version of the dungeon map (it’s a little blurry) and I worry that if you ever printed this some of the page heading text would get cut off. But all in all, great work!

Developer

Thank you for taking the time to read it, and for the feedback! Yes I agree the maps look a bit blurry, especially when zoomed in. It's an effect I'm afraid is made worse by my choice to use a semi-transparent digital pen. I've been blown away by the other submissions, and have been learning so much since the ratings opened 🤯

This is a great example of taking the title you're given and creating an unexpected, interesting, and gameable situation out of it. I would love to see the locations on page 4 fleshed out a bit more like the Warrior's Temple was. The threat of turning this parched basin into an archipelago provides the opportunity for a massive geological change that will (negatively? positively? both?) affect Timber Town and the surrounding area. Some factions would help sell the dangers of this potential shift. But hey, you did a lot in just four pages!

Developer

Thank you for taking the time to read it, and for the praise!

I really like this crawl!! Your map is really clear, and so’s your type. Bursting with creative ideas here; I presume the spider-folk are indeed spider crabs. I wonder what the crawlers are… but man, “Those who fail […] dissolve into a mass of tile crawlers in 1d6 +1 days.” That does a lot with a little. Kudos! You drop a lot of hints, and it makes me curious how this basin intersects with its wider world…

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the praise! I appreciate it. Certainly the spiderfolks' ancestors include crabs, but they've adapted to living in caves (hence the webs). It's certainly left up for interpretation, thank you for your interest!

love the maps. The diagram of the trap is super helpful. Really clean and unintimidating layout. Feels perfectly appendix N!

Thank you for checking it out! I appreciate the feedback.

Awesome maps and keyed areas..Good job!

Thank you!

Great work, those maps are amazing! Looks like a fun one to run.

Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it.

Well polished and clean! I loved getting to read through this! The design of the Warrior's temple is great and I love how vertical it is. Good use of the complementary colors to help the trap stand out amongst the rest of the design so as to not end up being noise. I also really love the overworld map! The gentle fish-eye lens style really stands out! Good work!

Thank you so much!

Very clear and to the point writing but creates a vivid sense of place. Nice and clear layout with good readability of the adventure would make this an easy print out and use module. Great maps to, really nice style! 🌊

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words! I wanted to keep the writing lean and let the maps breathe on the page ~~~

Awesome art! That isometric map is especially badass. The dungeon is cool and the short location keys on page 4 are great for what they are. I like the fonts but something is off, maybe the line spacing is a little loose.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for taking a look, and I think you're right about the line spacing. Using Canva for my layout is the newest skill in my workflow, and I spent a lot of time moving it all around so it works as both pages and a bifold spread, but I'm not sure I got there in the end.

Submitted(+1)

Awww yeah! Very Appx N. I really like how well you've described the atmosphere of the place without over writing it.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for reading it! I'm glad the ~vibe~ still comes through with such a limited word count.

Submitted(+1)

What a fantastic environment you made here. I’m not familiar with this system but seems brutal in a sort of fun way, especially love the “turn into tile cleaners” and basket full of snakes…I want to do that to my players.

Developer(+1)

Definitely it's brutal in a fun way. What I love about running Into the Odd is it takes like 30 seconds to make a character, they are all explicitly explorer/grave-robbers who have it coming, so no one really feels bad when they get what's coming to them. Just roll up a new one and get back in it.

Submitted(+1)

great work fitting in both the dungeon and surrounding travel. i think Into the Odd really shines with small bits of wilderness like that. i also like the local railroads and frontier town. they're a solid grounding touch to the Appendix N of it all. are the tile crawlers an Annihilation reference? i really like them!

high: the first event result with the sudden tempest. such a strong image. the kind of thing i'd open a session of this with because it sets the mood so well. i almost think it should just be part of the module instead of stuck in a random table

low: the sea witch feels undercooked. she's not mentioned in the text for her own lair! for me, she's missing specificity that would inspire me in playing her - what's she doing in the moment the party arrives? what might she offer them?

in-between: from the cover, i was hoping for more coral lol. the imagery here is still cool, but i felt like bleached coral was such a fun angle to ground the world while adding some psychedelic vibes

Developer(+1)

I really appreciate the thoughtful feedback! And yes, the tile crawlers are an annihilation reference; even the HP boost and brain scrub immunity before the final, fatal transformation was a nod.

Submitted(+1)

Really digging the descriptive writing!

Developer

Thank you! I managed to keep the whole thing under 700 words!
