Anything else you'd like to share about your game or development process?
This is our first game jam -- we definitely made the game too hard which is a good lesson for next time! If you're super into lore and creating stories, you can spend a long time with our game, but otherwise, please look @ answer key @ bottom if it's too difficult (it's definitely going to take a while). There isn't any consequence really for getting something wrong so you can also brute force it, haha. The stargaze ability is still there even if you lose all your attempts.

The cutscene got messed up -- it used to look better but we didn't have time to fix the background. The skip cutscene thing doesn't work on click but it works on key :D! Also I think something happened to the potion minigame when it was exported.

All audio is taken from the internet and all audio is credited (even though it is not legally required) and copyright-free. Just in case you didn't catch it, dialogue is done with the help of Dialogue Manager! I don't own any of the dialogue code.

Firstly- congrats on finishing your first game jam! For a first one this one is really good!

Graphics: You only get one chance on making the first impression. The best way to make a first impression is with a fully animated, flash animation style, intro. Brilliant! The rest of the graphics maybe lack the "fully animated" part, but have their own style.

Audio: I like how you put sound effects under everything. Background music fit the game. Only nitpick is that the "dialogue" sound was a bit loud/annoying.

Gameplay: I like games like this. The ones that make you read through bunch of hints to figure out the solution. From the other hand- in game jams the games that do the best are the ones that are easy to pick up. Also- the continue button in the main menu doesn't do anything- it just starts the game.

Btw- I always like some narrative, so your game definitely gets some points here!

Theme: Hmmm... I think you could lean more into the theme. The games that get the highest notes in this category are those, that build their gameplay, atmosphere, graphics with the theme in mind. In "Last Words" the "stargazing" feels a bit like an afterthought. Maybe you had an idea for a game before, and tried to fit it into the theme (we've all been here, with various levels of success).

Over all- really good debut! Keep it up! The next Goed jam is in September and I'd definitely like to see your work there! Keep it up!

Developer

Thank you for your detailed feedback :) We appreciate your insights and encouraging words! We would love to participate in the Goed jam in September but school might be too busy so we'll see! (We are entering the worst year of high school rn -- rip...). If you are participating in the next game jam we'd love to play your game atleast; good luck!

Beautiful game! It really stands out with its art style. The moon catching minigame is quite neat and the different scenes are interesting to explore. I think the wheel is too overwhelming, especially for people (including myself) who know nothing about tarot. Usually when the player has to read a lot of text to understand the goal, it's a bad sign, and it will deter many people from getting invested in the game.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback, we appreciate it! Yeah the wheel is probably a little bit overwhelming, haha. Thanks again.

I can't quite read the text on the icons on the wheel. Gonna have to try again later. Someone else mentioned not even being able to read the tarot cards (I could). Maybe you could add the tarot images into the game page description. (We are allowed to edit that during voting :) )

That's a good idea -- thank you! I think it's a little bit too late rn but we really appreciate it!

The game is really good! I think I might be a little too good at stargazing because I finished it in 5 minutes, hahaha!

But seriously, it was really well made , the story, the concept, the music, and the art style were all really cool. It’s one of the best games I’ve played in this jam. It fit the theme really well and felt very polished.

You two did a great job! And yeah  peak  is not skippable, hahaha! 😂 The potion-brewing scene was  good too! :)

Great work!

5 minutes is insane! Thank you for appreciating our game and your kind words! We are so happy to receive your positive feedback.

You're welcome, and good luck to both of you!

I love the graphics and the concept, but unfortunately I’m testing the game on a smaller than standard monitor, and the icons are very small and the tarot card text is illegible =(

It’s a beautiful game and I think it’s very well made. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to fully appreciate it during the voting period…

Ah… the intro animations are beautiful!

Imho, one of the best games of this jam!

Developer

I see -- thank you for giving us the feedback on our icons! We appreciate your lovely words about the beautiful art Chloe hath created. Have a wonderful day!

🕯️✨ YOOO, THIS ONE HAS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL COZY VIBE!

I really enjoyed the whole cartomancer + stars + forgotten memories concept. The story and dialogue pulled me in, and I liked how the clues slowly make you piece together who “Mother” really was. It gives the game a really nice emotional feeling.

And honestly, the colors and overall visual style are SO satisfying 😭💜 The cozy atmosphere made exploring the story feel really relaxing, even when the mystery itself got difficult.

The game is definitely challenging 😂, but I can see how adding a few more hints or introducing the arcana gradually could make it easier to get into.

For a first game jam, this is seriously impressive. You guys put a lot of heart into it, and it shows. 🌟

Definitely a TOP rating from me! 🏆

And pleaseee, if you have some free time, play my game too and leave me a review! 🥹🙏 I’d really appreciate your feedback.

GG and amazing work!! ✨

Thank you so much for your positive feedback and kind words! We give you our word to check out your game and rate it! Thank you, again.

As you said yourself, the game is very difficult, but I really like the concept. I think a game in this style where a few arcana are introduced over time could be really great!

Developer(+1)

I appreciate your kind words. We were originally planning on showing a reduced number of arcana for the first story but we realized we wouldn't have time to make another so we kinda shoved everything into one story which was not very wise. Thank you so much for your suggestion, if we do continue this game, we will definitely include it!

I love the way you introduce the story through dialogue. It creates a deep emotional connection with the characters. I think the game could benefit from some hints to help players complete it, as it can be a little stressful at times.

Developer

Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm glad you liked the dialogue. Yes, hints are a very good idea  -- thank you, again, for the suggestion!
