The whole idea of exploring player characters instead of (just, mere) enviroment isn't really a new one, but is a solid one. It work if, as in tis adventure, one can "pop in and out" of the metaphore. It's not my favourite game style, but i have to admit i'd love to play this game. It could have been even darker and lyncher, but i can also appreciate a good comprimise. That's a solid work with a daring pitch -respect.
Hey Thanks! you can see it in action on our YT channel, linked in the adventure itself.
Like others mentioned, this adventure is very good if your table is one for dedicating to their players instead of your typical action dungeon crawling. This needs for more prep, but it could be very exhilarating playing it. I love the overall module, layout is quite packed, which just means I'm stoked if you ever plan for an expanded version. Awesome work!!
Hey Thanks. Yeah, we ran the adventure on our YT channel and I can totally feel that demand people are talking about. we had a good time, though!
This one needs a player group really into delving deep into their characters. I think it would work in a long campaign or a fee weeks after a big campaign as a re-visit of the characters, when everyone knows enough about the PCs.
It’s an intriguing idea, I’ll peel my eyes for a Situation to run it.
The layout is a bit crowded and dense, I’ll print it on A4 to suit my elderly eyes ;)
Heh. I like a one-page dungeon and love to have it all in front of me! Thanks for checking it out.
I really like the idea of memory being such a core part of the adventure mechanics, down to the puzzles and enemies. Plopping this adventure down mid- to late-campaign and having the characters lose core memories can be really compelling. Good work.
Thanks! I really wanted to push the theme of the Wurdulac and bake the concept into the adventure.
Clearly labeled sections in the adventure, a cool and unique threat, and interesting loot! Nice job man!
Thanks! The inspiration struck to give a little bit of everything. We played the adventure on our YT channel and it received a good playtest.
I like this a lot; the theming is very good and plotline is solid. I think this would be a great module to hand someone who is a 5e DM trying to run Shadowdark for the first time. Thank you for writing it.
Thanks for that idea. It certainly is a lot more 'story'-y than most ShadowDark stuff, but y'all get to fill in the blanks!
I think this adventure could be very interesting to run but would absolutely need the right group of players, that was interested in the style of heavy lifting the adventure asks of them. I found it very thought provoking and liked how it utilizes the Wurdulac creature in a unique way.
Thanks!. You're correct on having the right group. I've been very fascinated by emergent play and wanted to really stoke those fires at the table. Thanks for checking it out.
I could def get into this kind of game play as a player. Prob take a little practice, as it isn't what I'm used to, but it's good stuff. And is helpful to think about my own game design.
It helps to flex different muscles once in a while. Thanks for enjoying it. We'll be playing an actual-play of this on our channel soon, to give it our best shot at our own work!
Having some experience with the 2023 movie that features this mythical creature I had something to imagine while reading the text. For content, Lair of the Wurdulac is a good first draft with a pretty unique approach to encounter design and crucially, asks quite a bit of roleplay from players.
My favorite bit is the blended real world and dungeon map on spread 2.
I didn't know there was a movie of that name! I'll have to check it out. I appreciate the comments. I really wanted to dial in the 'one-page' dungeon aspect. You're correct in that it asks a lot of RP and emergent play. Shouldn't be too tough for a one-shot, though! Just have fun! Thanks for recognizing the use of real art and layer map. The resources provided to Creative Commons assets is a blast!
Of course! Please check out the movie. It's a different spelling "The Vourdalak" but it is brilliant.
Thanks for the insight!
