I will concur that I found this somewhat hard to read, but I really enjoy the flavor and theming of it. Feels a lot like Viva Piñata or Bugsnax and I love the creativity of the monsters and their Malice features. These little buggers are adorable! I'm a big dazed hater, but I think the Dizzying Pageantry wager is pretty much safe enough to always attempt unless you absolutely need that HR to take your one action that turn, which means the dazed will hurt a lot less. So I appreciate including a built-in remedy to my least favorite part of the game!
Yeah, as a general remedy to dazed I would offer some other kind of optional cost. This is just one possible iteration that attempts to evoke the idea of attempting to overcome temptation. I'm basing these guys off the theoretical origin of pinatas as symbols of sin that you have to smash. I was even considering straight up devils popping out of them when you killed them.
Ooh, that's so interesting! That would be a really fun twist!
This thing is full of flair and personality. Really like the names of the monsters and abilities ('Who's Got the Bat Now!?' A+). And they bleed candy! I suspect some furies may have the bright idea to eat through the difficult terrain. Can't have a proper Draw Steel birthday bash without literally having to draw steel and bash some angry ~piñatas~ Disgruñotls.
There's something about seeing "Immunity: nope" that tickles me greatly. It's a charmingly casual breath of fresh air after rating tons of crisp, properly-formatted statblocks. Reminds me (in a very good way) of OSR-type zines you'd see on this website.
I see you've received a fair bit of mechanical and formatting critiques already, so I won't dive into that deeply. There's some clean up to do, aye, but don't feel like you have to fully subscribe to the common statblock presentation a lot of us use. So long as stuff is organized decently and makes sense—go for it. The comic-sans quirkiness of this is very fun, wouldn't want to see it go.
If you revamp this or make more stuff in the future, I'd be happy to look it over. This was a fun submission to read.
Glad it was a fun read! Very encouraging. Thanks!
A lovingly presented submission. It really has its own style, and is a concept I never would have thought of. I don't know how I would fit them in my game, but these Piñotls are a delight.
Oh geez thanks! Worked hard on the format just because I didn't see the provided stat block on the main jam page. 😅 Definitely needs an overhaul, but I'll keep in mind to keep the same kind of flair.
Feedback:
Dizzying pageantry is interesting, though I did have to read it quite a few times before I understood when to make the wager. It’s probably simpler to just have a player make a wager and remove the power roll?
Art is very fun! I love it. I didn’t realize at first the glob stopper was a monster, I think the font needs to be bigger and maybe the blue line extended? Reading through the rest, it is very difficult to tell which abilities are for which monsters.
I think the formatting of your headers needs an overhaul, with consistent font sizes, and making the boxes tighter to the text when the text is smaller. I found it hard to read. I like the use of color and boxes, just needs some more cleaning up.
Recoup is probably my favorite ability, I love the use of the candied ground and how the hurricane can use them!
Ah thanks for checking it out! Good to know about the dizzying pageantry. I was wondering if it would be more convenient to wrap the wager in a roll you will make anyways, but maybe just always rolling a separate d3 is more streamlined. Tho I wonder if there's also just a better way to phrase it. First time formatting anything like this or making a monster band. Lots I can do better for sure.
Wonderfully creative. Though the main daze mechanics appear to force a lot of record keeping to avoid the most dreaded condition in the game. I assume that after the jam you will add some pages to make this more usable but as of now it is hard to follow, with he Glob Stopper and Wrecking Star having entries that don't flow well.
Finally the theme was is solid.

Thanks! I threw all of it together very quickly and struggled a lot to get it into the 2 pages. I thought it would be interesting to play with dazed in a way to make it more palatable and leaned towards agency and gambling. Really had no time to test anything so I have no idea how much strain it adds to actual play or how hard it is to explain in the moment.
When I get a chance a quick formatting could be just adding a different background tone to the wrecking star and glob stopper
I should've just made an ancestry... that was too much work.
