Hey! I've spent quite a lot of time playing your game :-) About 4 hours according to the saved game so I can give you some more detailed feedback.

  • Given that I actually lasted more than 4 hours, I can say that I enjoyed it so far and now I am much more familiar with the game play than when watching the trailer 😅 I get the 4 counters (depression, madness, horror, wound). There's definitely a spooky atmosphere with the varied sound effects throughout the game. About these SFX, I wasn't sure at first whether there would be a lot of jump scares and how much bracing I should do... but as it turned out, it's more "relaxed" than I thought, which is good for me.
  • Now, I have to say that I am kind of stuck unfortunately. I have made quite  lot of progress on several threads, but it now feels like I have explored everything, every house, every building several times and I can't seem to find some key missing items, which has become more frustrating than pleasurable... my worry is that some objects would just appear randomly and not with a rational logic. I hope it's not like that but it occurred a few times that suddenly a letter or an envelop appeared, with important information. What I am missing now is an electric torch to check out one dark basement (I have collected batteries), as well as maybe a battery for a laptop. Obviously there are several doors that are still closed, but I've been to the chapel, the cemetery, the lake and in fact I have died a couple of times attacked by the werewolf or the nun. I can't seem to get passed the spikes in the slaughterhouse, in order to check what is behind, which might open the door in the middle of the room. I have also a key to a warehouse, but it has not been used yet and I can't seem to find a warehouse. At some point I found a wall that needed an axe to break it. Then later on I found an axe, but man, it took me soooo much time to find the wall where I could use the axe.
  • I got running water in some places but not all... About the water, there is something that is not coherent: if the taps are not running, then how can you flush the toilet, that really seems wrong.
  • In almost every place there is a way to light candles, fireplace or stove... does it have a use? Is the player expected to light up everything?
  • At the beginning, there is a dialog with my brother and he says something about meeting someone. unfortunately, maybe I closed the dialog to soon, but there was no way to read again what my brother had said... I hope I didn't miss too important information, because I didn't meet the cousin or whoever he was talking about. Maybe there should be a way to bring up the last dialog?
  • There is a book that talks about getting numbers from the letters in the alphabet, but I couldn't think of a place to use this so far. I guess it works with one of the combination for a lock, but there was no obvious items that made me think of trying to get numbers from them.
  • The inventory: as I progressed, I gathered many items and after a while, they got mixed up, especially when they are called the same, ex. "a note", "A letter", "An old letter", "A diary", etc. I spotted at the top of the inventory a kind of summary, which was useful instead of opening each item, but I wondered if there is a better way of sorting the items, for instance chronologically with the more recent ones at the top. For instance if I pick up a metal box, I expect to see this item listed first or highlighted rather than scrolling and find it among other items. Also, if I find a box, it feels weird to have to go back to the inventory and be asked whether I want to open it or not... If I find a box, I expect to want to open directly when I find it, same with the letter.
  • On the health part, I "kept my sanity" smoking cigarettes, drinking red and green bottles, and checking out some items. So I felt pretty safe. However when I got touched by the nun or the werewolf, I almost died instantly as they are very difficult to escape, which I found a bit punitive to be honest.
  • The map is good, but maybe a bit frustrating not to see a dot showing where you are on the map. I get that it's part of the game to learn the place, but after a while it's a bit of a pain to bring up the map and put the dot mentally where you are.
  • About the overall story, I have to say that it's not very clear to me... Ok there's some kind of curse, but actually, as you progress, there are several threads and we're not sure if they all need to be "solved" as part of the main story, or if there are some sort of side quests. I got to the point where I know there's a kind of ritual to perform in 3 different places, but I can't make out how it's supposed to solve "my own" curse. There's the demon, the werewolf, the ghost, the Nina thread, etc. and I haven't made sense of them as a whole yet.
  • Finally I got to the point where I really doubt I would see the end, mainly because I got bored of visiting the same houses over and over again, and I feel that I haven't got the full picture yet for the rituals. I guess this last point would clear itself as I progress.

That said, again, I enjoyed the time I spent playing. It's a good exploration/puzzle game with spooky SFX, with some part of the interface that could be slightly improved. I'm a bit frustrated that I couldn't go further and felt stuck, as it became repetitive in exploration and action, as I would have liked to see the end.

Anyway, congratulation for all the work, I hope that the feedback is useful.

Thanks a lot for your feedback!!

I will give you a more detailed answer, but im with my mobile device and without a translator just right now 😅

4 hours of playing deserves to see the end man, check the OLD MINE for the torch youre looking for, and let me know if you get stuck again!!!!

Thanks again for playing and for your detailed feedback, is very useful to me, and as I said. I will answer you properly when I have my laptop.

Right then, I’ll reply properly to your very detailed feedback. ❤️

As for the scares, the atmosphere can feel oppressive and unsettling, particularly due to the audio, the sound effects and the odd unexpected encounter, but as you’ll have seen, it’s not a game based on jump scares, nor is it purely a horror game.

  • As for the frustration of exploring the same environments over and over again, I grew up playing games like "Simon the Sorcerer", "Monkey Island" and similar titles, so this was never an issue for me as a player.  It may seem as though some objects appear at random, but that’s never the case; they appear as the various storylines unfold, and I’ve tried to ensure that the player knows exactly where to look for the next clue, even if it wasn’t there before. These clues are left by someone who’s been helping you throughout the game, and who, in fact, helped you escape from the psychiatric hospital. 😼

  • You don’t need to light all the fireplaces and candles in the game, but:
    • Lighting the fireplace will help you see which houses you’ve explored (you can see if smoke is coming out of the chimney from the outside).
    • Leave at least one candle lit; this will allow you to light cigarettes at any time, even if you run out of matches.

  • There’s no way to open the initial dialogue with your brother, but don’t worry – it was more about the storyline than it was practical for the game.

  • There are several copies of the book *How to Convert Letters into Numbers* in San Vicente; try to remember the formulas – you’ll need them if  you keep playing.

  • As for the subplots, they are ‘independent’; the main one is "An ancient curse" (if you’ve realised that you have to perform a sort of ritual in three different locations, you’re already well on your way), and the rest deal with events that took place in San Vicente in the past. When you resolve a subplot, your Depression, Horror and Madness stats will improve.

  • From what you’ve told me and the items you have, you’re stuck at three points:
    • Look for the torch in the old mine.
    • Make your way past the spikes in the slaughterhouse towards where you want to go (a crate, if I remember correctly); just keep an eye on your health and carry some bandages just in case...
    • There are only two warehouses in the game, and if you already have the axe, the only one left to open is next to Chusé’s house.

  • And finally, I’m thinking of developing a paid, downloadable version of the game for Windows.  I’m working on making the map show your current location when you’re outdoors, and on the inventory system. I reckon simply adding ‘read’ at the end of notes or letters that have already been viewed might do the trick…  I also want to add atmospheric events outdoors so that the map isn’t so monotonous…

Having said that, I know it’s a very long and difficult game (I only know three people who’ve managed to finish it), but if you fancy it and my hints are any help, I’d love for you to see the ending after all the time you’ve spent both playing and writing your comments.

❤️ A HUGE THANK YOU for the feedback; it’s exactly what I’m looking for to help me improve the game. ❤️

Hello! Thank you to you for taking the time to reply in details :-) I'm also glad my feedback didn't upset you... I was honest, but it doesn't mean I'm right or that changes are needed 😅 Criticizing is so easy but making a game is a very long process.

I also loved games like Monkey island and the fact that I got frustrated is probably because I haven't played this kind of game for a long time, so I'm a bit rusty and impatient, especially when now on more "official games", you always find the complete solution online when you're stuck. That said, having  kind of subtle "hint" mechanism could be a way to let less experienced players progress rather than get stuck and give up. This could either be a text hint, or even something displayed on the map to indicate a place you may want to check out to make progress.

The thing about the fires/candles is a good way to know what has been visited indeed and I hadn't seen the smoke until you mentioned it 😅

With the info you gave me, I should be able to move forward and hopefully see the end of the game. I will let you know when I play again! Cheers

You’re welcome – thanks to you for such detailed advice!

Right, if you fancy finishing the game and get stuck again, just let me know and I’ll help you – I realise it might be a bit too difficult. 😅

One thing I didn’t mention! Lots of scenes, events, etc. vary depending on your depression, horror and madness trackers. You can finish the game with the trackers at 3–4, but it’ll be much harder.

Hello there! I'm coming back to you because I'm stuck again, though I made a bit of progress... I did find the torch in the mine, actually I don't know why, I'm pretty sure I had checked the cart and nothing had happened, but this time when I went, I could get into the cart and go on... but Now I have a couple of things stopping me, despite another round of going in every single building:

  • What year was the new water tank built? I am seeing the demon and he asks me questions... unfortunately, I may have read it somewhere, but I just can't find that information again. Maybe it depends on other parts I haven't done yet.
  • I can't get into the new watertank as I don't know the code.
  • There is a chest with a 4 letter code I can't open in one of the houses.
  • In another place, I can see tools, which would probably help me breaking through the "casing" of an object I found in my house... but the door is locked.
  • There are more doors locked.

Without necessarily providing the answer(s), could you point me to the right direction for the next move? The issue I have is that I'm at 3 for horror, quickly going on 4 and I can't find any green absynth, which is tough.

Thank you for your help ;-)

I'm so glad you're still playing!

I think you'll be able to solve all your puzzles at once by entering the new water tank.

  • When the new water tank was built? --> There might be a document inside the new water tank that tells you...
  • I can't get into the new water tank because I don't know the code.
  • There’s a chest with a 4-letter code that I can’t open in one of the houses.
    •  Both puzzles are related --> Think about it: Where is the chest you can’t open?  Who lives here?  Where do he works? Is there someone special to that person?  Is there a way to convert letters into numbers?

There is some places in San Vicente with infinite green absynthe 😈, but you have to solve a thread to find it:

  • The ghost of the Lake
  • A Werewolf in San Vicente

Good luck mate, so glad you put attention on my game! 😘
