Hi, thanks for the advice!

People had already recommended the teleportation thing to me, but it’s not possible in my game.

I have to run some tests, but I think I’ll finally be able to use the old save files for the new version. In any case, if it’s not possible, I’ll mention it in the update devlog and on social media, and I’ll give away a key to players who have unfinished games as compensation—I can’t think of much else...

Thanks again for your comment. Have a great day!

Wow, just a couple of months?

And how long does the game last? I’ve been for over two years with mine and I still haven’t finished it... 😿

Oh I think if the player download the actual version of the game tough itchio app it still works after i modified the file in the web!

I am going to try, and if it works I will anounce it in a devlog asking my players to download trough the app!

Thankssssssssss again 😘

Oh no, I’m using RPG Maker’s default save and load system, so I can’t get very far with that...

As for fast-forwarding, I’d already thought of that, but it’s a completely open-world game; it isn’t divided into chapters, screens or anything like that – the player simply explores, solves puzzles, collects items and all that sort of thing. Fast-forwarding isn’t an option either.

Hahaha, you had to replay 40 hours of the game??!!! Sorry for laughing, but that seems absolutely mad to me, although it’s clear you really liked the game.

As for the problem, I’m going to try to ‘roughly’ modify the files that were changed from the previous version to the current one directly in the .zip file uploaded to itch… it’s quite a bit of work; I have to work out everything I’ve changed and replace only those files, but I can’t think of much else… If I can’t manage to do this either, I’ll have no choice but to publish a devlog, report on the progress and offer a very sincere apology to the players…

Thanks for your help mate, have a nice weekend! 💖

Hi everyone!

I’m preparing to release a new version of my game that will be played online, and there’s one thing I’m a bit worried about.

Since I originally released the game about 1 month ago, many people have played it. The game is also pretty long (10-14 hours), so I’m sure there are players out there who are currently halfway through their playthroughs. The problem is that the new version will not be compatible with the existing save files, meaning those players will lose their current progress. 😬 I really don’t want people to come back to the game, update it, and suddenly discover that their 8-hour save is gone.

At the same time, I’d really prefer not to create a completely new project/page for the new version. I’d hate to lose the existing ratings, collections, followers, etc.

The only thing I can think of is to post a devlog about the project explaining this, and try to get the players to hate me a bit less… What would you do? Any ideas?

Looks really amazing, congrats man!

How long did it take you to develop it?

Congrats friend 😉

Thanks, I did not know this feature and is great to find new games 😘

Hello!

Is there a way to edit the project once it’s been submitted? I accidentally forgot to include the cover page... 😅😅😅

Thanks in advance! 😘

Yeah, finally I download itchio app, makes distribution much easier...

Come up with another idea, another story, different mechanics, and so on in your head, and enjoy the creative process all over again, drawing on the knowledge you’ve gained from your previous creations, I suppose… 🤷‍♂️

(1 edit)

I'm so glad you're still playing!

I think you'll be able to solve all your puzzles at once by entering the new water tank.

  • When the new water tank was built? --> There might be a document inside the new water tank that tells you...
  • I can't get into the new water tank because I don't know the code.
  • There’s a chest with a 4-letter code that I can’t open in one of the houses.
    •  Both puzzles are related --> Think about it: Where is the chest you can’t open?  Who lives here?  Where do he works? Is there someone special to that person?  Is there a way to convert letters into numbers?

There is some places in San Vicente with infinite green absynthe 😈, but you have to solve a thread to find it:

  • The ghost of the Lake
  • A Werewolf in San Vicente

Good luck mate, so glad you put attention on my game! 😘

Keep it up mate 😼

Hi solodev!

As solodev 😅,  I understand everything you're saying, I respect it, and I agree 100%.

The post is a little over a year old; that was when I “discovered” what generative AI could do for me, and little by little I came to understand what it could end up taking away from me.

Recently, after a little over two years, I released version 1.0 of the game, which is fully playable in a browser.

After quite a bit of effort, I checked this box—which, even though it might seem silly, was important to me after trying to understand how AI works.

Best regards, and good luck with all your projects. 😘😘

The plugin works brilliantly – it’s exactly what I was looking for!

I’ve tweaked it so you can switch it on and off as an event command. As I have footstep sounds linked to terrain tags, the command to delete the tags didn’t work for me…  😅

Just in case you’d like to consider this as an improvement. 😘

A brilliant plugin, congrats!

That’s a very interesting question; one of the things I find practically impossible is knowing when to stop development and say, ‘OK, that’s it, it’s polished enough’.

If it were up to me, I’d carry on improving and polishing my games for ever…

I suppose a good way to keep this under control is to set yourself a deadline to finish it, release it, and forbid yourself from touching it again once it’s out…

I think donating is a much better option. 😘

Thanks mate! 😘

Hi everyone!

I'm working on an installable version of my game, for which I want to implement several improvements. The first of these has been to redesign the forest and add atmospheric effects.

What do you think, it seems smooth?

It’s definitely a well-optimised game!

To be honest, I don’t really care that much about the graphics; I don’t need them for the game to be fun. 😊

I wanted to use the installer to distribute the game as a downloadable for Windows in the future, but based on what you’ve told me about launchers, I don’t think I’ll need it.

Thank you very much for your reply.

That’s what I did, and for a paid, downloadable game for Windows, it’s fine, but I think I should have split the web version into chapters. It also has a save option, but all the browser-based games I’ve seen are much shorter...

The game will have at least two more parts, but if they’re just as long, I think I’ll split them up... 🤷

Hi everyone!

For those of you who release downloadable Windows builds, what do you use to create your installers, if you use one at all? I've been looking into this recently and ended up using Inno Setup. It seems to work really well, and I like that you can customize things such as the installation wizard, icons, shortcuts, installation directory, etc.

Do you create a proper installer for your games, or do you simply distribute the game as a ZIP file? Are there any particular tools you'd recommend ?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Melinda!

I understand what you’re saying and I agree 100 %, but I’m afraid that because of the game’s storyline, it’s not possible to replay it once you’ve finished it...

It’s a sort of adventure game full of riddles and puzzles, so once you’ve solved them, there’s no point in solving them again. 😅

Thanks for the advice anyway, have a nice day!

Yes, I was referring to Nightmare in San Vicente!

I’ve finally released the full version for free to play online, often browse other browser-playable games here and haven’t come across any games this long, which is why I asked…

As for the paid downloadable version, I’ll try to include several improvements over the web version to make it worth the money for players. If I can’t come up with anything that I’m happy with, I’ll just leave the browser-based version as it is and that’ll be that...

Thanks for your comment mate, have a nice day!

Great game, very good job!

Well, it’s not really my style of play – as you’ll have realised from watching my gameplay – so I’m not sure if I’m the sort of player you’re looking for...

Anyway, if you can’t find any playtesters, just let me know and I’d be happy to give it a go when I’ve got some spare time!

Form submitted!

A VERY addictive game 😘

😂😂😂😂😂

Maybe is not indexed yet... 🤷‍♂️

For sure!!!

I will check out your game soon, wait for my feedback 😘

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for players with experience with RPG Maker games who would be willing to play the web version of my game and give me some honest feedback.

The game is currently available as a browser version on itch.io. It has received some good feedback so far, which has encouraged me to consider making an improved, downloadable Windows version.

I'm also considering whether it would make sense to eventually release it on Steam, but before investing more time into that, I'd really like to hear from people who are familiar with RPG Maker games.

I'm not looking for compliments or encouragement just for the sake of it. Please be completely honest.

If you think the game has potential, I'd love to know what works. But if you think it's too long, too slow, the gameplay isn't engaging enough, the RPG Maker presentation doesn't hold up, or simply that it doesn't have much of a future, please tell me that too.

In fact, I'd rather hear "don't spend another 200 hours working on this" than receive polite feedback that doesn't help me make a decision. 😅

The game is:

  • Made with RPG Maker
  • Exploration / mystery / adventure
  • Some horror elements
  • No combat
  • Around 10–14 hours long
  • Fully playable in the browser
  • English

If you're interested in giving it a try, here is the link:

Thanks! Any honest feedback, positive or negative, would be hugely appreciated.

You’re welcome – thanks to you for such detailed advice!

Right, if you fancy finishing the game and get stuck again, just let me know and I’ll help you – I realise it might be a bit too difficult. 😅

One thing I didn’t mention! Lots of scenes, events, etc. vary depending on your depression, horror and madness trackers. You can finish the game with the trackers at 3–4, but it’ll be much harder.

(1 edit)

Right then, I’ll reply properly to your very detailed feedback. ❤️

As for the scares, the atmosphere can feel oppressive and unsettling, particularly due to the audio, the sound effects and the odd unexpected encounter, but as you’ll have seen, it’s not a game based on jump scares, nor is it purely a horror game.

  • As for the frustration of exploring the same environments over and over again, I grew up playing games like "Simon the Sorcerer", "Monkey Island" and similar titles, so this was never an issue for me as a player.  It may seem as though some objects appear at random, but that’s never the case; they appear as the various storylines unfold, and I’ve tried to ensure that the player knows exactly where to look for the next clue, even if it wasn’t there before. These clues are left by someone who’s been helping you throughout the game, and who, in fact, helped you escape from the psychiatric hospital. 😼

  • You don’t need to light all the fireplaces and candles in the game, but:
    • Lighting the fireplace will help you see which houses you’ve explored (you can see if smoke is coming out of the chimney from the outside).
    • Leave at least one candle lit; this will allow you to light cigarettes at any time, even if you run out of matches.

  • There’s no way to open the initial dialogue with your brother, but don’t worry – it was more about the storyline than it was practical for the game.

  • There are several copies of the book *How to Convert Letters into Numbers* in San Vicente; try to remember the formulas – you’ll need them if  you keep playing.

  • As for the subplots, they are ‘independent’; the main one is "An ancient curse" (if you’ve realised that you have to perform a sort of ritual in three different locations, you’re already well on your way), and the rest deal with events that took place in San Vicente in the past. When you resolve a subplot, your Depression, Horror and Madness stats will improve.

  • From what you’ve told me and the items you have, you’re stuck at three points:
    • Look for the torch in the old mine.
    • Make your way past the spikes in the slaughterhouse towards where you want to go (a crate, if I remember correctly); just keep an eye on your health and carry some bandages just in case...
    • There are only two warehouses in the game, and if you already have the axe, the only one left to open is next to Chusé’s house.

  • And finally, I’m thinking of developing a paid, downloadable version of the game for Windows.  I’m working on making the map show your current location when you’re outdoors, and on the inventory system. I reckon simply adding ‘read’ at the end of notes or letters that have already been viewed might do the trick…  I also want to add atmospheric events outdoors so that the map isn’t so monotonous…

Having said that, I know it’s a very long and difficult game (I only know three people who’ve managed to finish it), but if you fancy it and my hints are any help, I’d love for you to see the ending after all the time you’ve spent both playing and writing your comments.

❤️ A HUGE THANK YOU for the feedback; it’s exactly what I’m looking for to help me improve the game. ❤️

Thanks a lot for your feedback!!

I will give you a more detailed answer, but im with my mobile device and without a translator just right now 😅

4 hours of playing deserves to see the end man, check the OLD MINE for the torch youre looking for, and let me know if you get stuck again!!!!

Thanks again for playing and for your detailed feedback, is very useful to me, and as I said. I will answer you properly when I have my laptop.

Thanks for your answer.

I see your point, but im not sure if the pacing is enough in this case...

I tried to introduce new elements often, and i designed six subplots trying the player dont get bored...

Anyway, have to wait some kind of feedback about this, thanks again for comment and sorry for my english! 😅

Thanks mate! 😉

Yes, of course you can save the game!

So much hours without saving would be crazy! 😅
