Description
I aimed for the level 4 : Create the end credits, nostalgic then energetic, using a leitmotiv, for a game called Time Gears that is Steampunk.
I imagined a JRPG in a time gears factory with two young protagonists who are workers and uncover a misguided plot at their place of work. The main engineer is using the gears to go back in time and save his family, if he succeeds he could destroy everything they know ...
Cello and accordeon work for the Victorian/ steampunk vibe and piano is used mostly for the nostalgic aspect.

I very much like the versatile use of the instruments. The piano starts out playing melody and chords, going to chords only and handing the melody off to a string section, going to arpeggios... it feels like every instrument is doing something rhythmic, something melodic and something harmonic at some point.
As was said before, your harmonies sometimes don't quite mesh (looking at the two measures following 0:44 - your cello doesn't have to play a line no other instrument has done in this piece before) and your acoustic space is very dry, a little bit more reverb should bring the whole thing together a lot more.
So basically, I have comparatively minor suggestions while your track as a whole is working really nicely for the intended purpose. Very well done!
(Submission 14/29 - "Time Gears end credits" by Awilan789)
You have some good ideas going in your composition! My favorite part is at 1:05 to the endwhen the piano arpeggio drives the track forward! I think the accordion is a nice touch and really enhances the 'child-protag' narrative idea quite well.
I noticed a couple things that you could definitely improve upon going forward. The track is pretty dry and it only enhances the fact that the piano doesn't have a realistic release. I would also recommend attempting to 'humanize' the MIDI patterns by manually adjusting velocity because everything feels like its playing at the exact same volume the whole time. Another thing is to watch the key signature you're using because some notes felt like they were clashing too strongly (minor on a major key).
Other than the improvable flaws, I thought that the track was wonderfully made with a lot of heart and soul put into it! Thank you Awilan for your submission!
Thank you for the detailed feedback! I'll look into it once the jam is ended to post an improved version on soundcloud ๐
I can hear the dryness where compared to the other submissions which means I have to learn how to use references when I mix. Here with the time constraint I focused on volume balances and not on CC reverb and so on ๐
For the dissonances you're not the first to tell me there a some in my 2 or 3 tracks I did so far. I grow accustomed to them very fast so I'll have to check with music theory
I really like the opening, nice chords and melody. When it starts building up, I think the accompaniment could use a bit more rhythm as it feels quite static. I like the instrumentation you've chosen, a nice spread of frequencies and you blend them together well.
Thank you for the feedback, I'll look into it!
