How does your art incorporate the theme?
It incorporates the theme by casting a water spell. Spells overall are fantasy, and I'm positive people will be able to tell that it's a wand casting the spell

I loved seeing your progress as you worked on this! The animation of the water swirling around the wand is super well done!

The animation is very nice, I wish there was more going on though, either with the animation or the background

Developer(+1)

I was genuinely stuck on the background. I didn't want 1 color but I couldn't make something I was satisfied with

That's fair. If I was making this  and I didn't have some crazy big background idea I would have just made it darker and have a folowing light on the back for where the magic goes. Maybe even a  little directional shine on the wand caused by the same thing. But the creative road block happens to us all, you did great :D

The wand being so stiff really stands out against the well animated water. You don't need to add a hand, just make the want move in an exagurated way as the spell is casted, it would really make it flow better.

it came out lovely in the end! great work

Saw this when you were making the wand, so much cooler with the water wrapping around. I especially like that the water orb isn't perfectly spherical, giving an illusion of a more dynamic shape rotating. Also, def check out that delicious in dungeon scene that G4BR13L mentioned.

The water looks really good, great job!

Water animation is really well done!

Developer

I appreciate it. The bubble--that was my first time doing a bubble in pixel art so I wasn't sure how to really animate it. I thought of adding drips, but looking at spells of water, it didn't make sense. And I couldn't get it to where I felt satisfied with it.

I wasn't sure on how to animate the bubble in a moving motion, but the idea was there

Developer

Might go back in the future (prob tomorrow or something) and see what I can do with it

I think the pulsing is ok, maybe a little more smooth? and also you could use subpixel animation to add reflections and highlights moving within the bubble

Developer (1 edit)

I'll definitely try that. Animation is brand new to me. I learn from watching, but I don't feel like practicing when watching haha so I forget stuff. Also the pulsing was my way of animating it moving if you look at the pixels in the bubble. But yeah, I could definitely make it more smooth

Have you seen Dungeon Meshi? (Or delicious in dungeon). There's a monster that's literally a water ball, you could watch how it was animated to get more inspo

Wooosh! Love me some magical special effects! :D
