The colors and shading here is gorgeous; I particularly love the edges of the stairs and the edges of the portal, which has a messy painterly effect that feels so three dimensional. The use of light and shadow is purposeful and all adds to the physicality of the piece. The only thing that doesn't entirely hook me is the closest ring of rocks, though I can't say entirely why...
