FAQ

I have been getting some questions that I feel are important to answer, but can't find a nice place to slot into the main page, so I'll put them here.
I will grow this list as I get more questions.

  • Am I allowed to use premade assets/tools?
    • Yes! However if it's a player facing thing you should probably declare it in the early work section when you're submitting your project, just so no one is questioning how you did the equivalent of 6 months worth of work in a week, etc, etc.
  • Am I allowed to develop my entry while high?
    • idgaf I'm not your dad.

If you have any other questions, please leave them below and I might add them!~

Hi! I’d like to confirm whether a Battle Lab version of my existing game would qualify for Lewdie Jam 4 before I submit anything.

Blade Baes is an unfinished physics arena roguelike currently in closed alpha. It existed before the jam, and I would disclose all significant pre-jam work.

Blade Baes: Battle Lab is a separate public testing build focused only on the core 1v1 and free-for-all combat. It is not the full roguelike. It retains the game’s horny premise, flirtatious writing, innuendo, adult character framing, and suggestive ability names, but contains no nudity or sexually explicit scenes. All characters are adults.

Battle Lab removes the main alpha’s generated character artwork, UI artwork, item artwork, visual effects, and voice-over. Its visuals are drawn at runtime using code and geometric primitives.

However, AI-assisted coding and development tooling have been used on the broader project, and some retained prototype audio may also involve AI assistance.

Could you please clarify:

  1. Does the rule prohibiting “the output of AI generators anywhere” include AI-assisted or AI-generated code included in the build?
  2. Would AI-assisted prototype music or sound also disqualify the entry, even if removed or replaced before submission?
  3. Is an unfinished pre-existing project eligible when the earlier work is fully declared and the Battle Lab version receives meaningful work during the jam?

I don’t want to stretch the rules or submit unless you’re comfortable that it qualifies. Thank you!

Generally, I want to avoid having submissions that utilise AI generation, even if AI generated code is hard for a viewer to identify, so I'd remove your submission on those grounds.

However, the early work would also probably be enough to have your submission disqualified, depending how how long ago you actually started working on it.
While a submission that was started a few days before the Jam would be allowed, a submission that was started a week or more before the jam would get removed.

Understood, thank you.

hiiii! I didn’t get to submit to this jam and several others due to being thrown off my motivation because of hospitalization. Would I be allowed to submit? Even if it’s after voting ends? :0

I like submitting to jams. They challenged me to write and stay on subject. Thanks~

The point of a game jam is to make a game within a time frame. Being able to submit a game after the submission period kind of defeats the purpose of a Game Jam.

Even if I was okay with it, it's only possible to submit something to an itch.io game jam during the submissions period.

That’s interesting. I’ve usually been able to submit when a jam was over because I would get a submission link.

I know that’s the point of the jam, but I do like trying to stick to the idea and themes of the jam and make something for it, even if it’s after the fact. I suppose I put too much value into the jams that I feel bad joining and not being able to create what I wanted for it.

Ah well. I can count this one as a loss. Life issues got in the way of this and others I joined.
