Description
I was imagining a sort of end credits where it starts off slowly, but as it progresses it begins showing the adventure and journey that the characters embarked on. The good, bad, happy, sad, heroic, evil, known, and the mysterious all share a part in the journey. I hope I was able to represent that through the music.
With a slow start it shows the beginnings of the characters, individually, and how they began to party together. Slowly finding each other, helping one another, and fighting battles alongside themselves. From dense forests, mountain ranges, and caves unlike this world's, they explored and conquered. The bonds created truly have made them inseparable, lifelong friends, for that journey, from beginning to end, was truly theirs.
Just as a personal thing, I've mainly written music using standard notation instead of digitally (using a DAW like FL or Ableton). So that's why I decided to write in Sibelius. I also think the orchestral sound does have a charm to it that fits a credit scene as well.

Nice atmosphere ! It doesn't seem like an end credits with the changes and the constant atmosphere, but it seems like it could be in an old Disney movie scene. That's a good storytelling and we can easily imagine ourselves a story, things happening. The sound volume is a little bit too low, maybe it would've been nice to increase it after finishing composing.
Good work !
I like how you are using the instruments in a varied way, like the low piano being played at least in part for the slightly out-of-tune sound of the low piano notes.
Between 1:45 and 2:00 you are modulating to a different key and that felt kinda not needed at that point. The music was not overstaying its welcome, you did not repeat prominent earlier phrases in the new context... it felt like an exercise instead of what the piece called for. The music after 4:00 seems to have little to do with what came before it, other than the instrumentation, I think, a little more callback to the earlier sections would make it more reliably identifiable as part of the same piece.
Besides those minor gripes, I would love to hear something of yours played by an actual orchestra.
To be honest, you are not mistaken. I do wish I was able to let ideas go on for longer and interact with one another more without sudden change. I do agree that there were times I was treating this as more an exercise rather than a genuine piece. Maybe it was a timeframe thing and I just couldn't properly express what I wanted, but that's neither here nor there.
I also definitely agree I should have done more to reference earlier material and make the piece feel more coherent. Especially for something like an end credits theme, having that overall coherency from start to finish is very important, and something I did lack.
I greatly appreciate your feedback and kind words!
I mean - it's a jam, you know your music will be heard by other composers and, at least subconsciously, you want to show what you are capable of. To be honest, at one point I had a section in my own entry where I tried to change keys from D-Dorian to Eb-Major. Listened to what amounted to 4 hours of work after dinner and scrapped the whole idea XD

I got so lost into your music while listening to it that I genuinely forgot to write anything down about it as it played. Absolutely mesmerizing! I love your usage of dissonance throughout the composition.
I have some feedback:
Similar to what doost said, I think that mixing will definitely help. especially by increasing the master volume using a compressor / limiter / soft clipper (if you need). I had to turn up my volume up around 66% higher than what is humanly reasonable (yes i did the maths). Because of this, the instantaneous shift at 4:00 actually scared my boots off. I get what you were trying to go for: a sudden discombobulation, and I think that's fine. Just not when I have to lower my already increased volume down 16% and when I've already gotten used to the more peaceful sections for four minutes.
Despite this, I think your composition skills are fantastic! I loved it!
I will definitely be sure to do proper mixing next time, I definitely did not mean to genuinely scare you, and I am very sorry for that. I greatly appreciate your kind words as well!!
You're fine :D. Thank you Noz for making such a great piece!
holy composition i enjoyed this. really cool.
feedback: i know you dont work in a daw but a little bit of mixing could really help your stuff. just a compressor and a limiter can really pack the sound together so the quiet and loud parts dont jump around.
i really like the whole journey and all the places the piece takes the listener. but as the track goes on i dont feel like this could belong to an end credit scene of a game. listening to it makes me feel like it’s made for a certain scene of a movie. idk maybe it’s because it’s classical.
idk how Sibelius works but controlling dynamics of each instruments is essential, when some of the notes are being played and they hold and they dont change expression/velocity much, it feels a little unnatural. with a daw its pretty easy.
basically im saying with the type of skils you have, get in a damn daw.
anyway hope that helps. wish u the best.
Yeah, I really do wish I was able to do some mixing with this. I ended up being super busy the first few days of the jam, so I really only had two days to do everything. I'll absolutely make sure to get some mixing in next time though, because I completely agree with what you're saying.
I also did have a fear about what you had mentioned, as it went on I was like "Man... this is some hefty credits", so I will do my best to keep it more inline.
I really do greatly appreciate the feedback, and thank you for listening! (I do have a DAW, this is just more of a comfort thing... but I'll push myself to use it more lol!)
