Should the tablet have some text on it at the beginning? I really like the game’s vibe. I also like the collectibles being drawn in a way that makes them something you can actually spot.
The video game is interesting, the visual quality of the illustrations and how they combine with the sound is great.
I wish the video game had an introduction explaining the mechanics and what you need to do to understand it.
I like the aesthetic. I think it creates an unified atmosphere for the game. I think the spyglass tool was really clever. more Adventure Games could use of a function like that that helps highlight interactive objects.
On the other hand, the game starts very abruptly. Maybe an starting cinematic or dialogue would helped to make the introduction feel more natural
You did a great job integrating the detective mini games! I only wish there were more SFX and audio cues for them. The story is a bit lacking which is a little disappointing when the artists did such great job, but given the size of your team and the time crunch, I think you did a great job! There's a lot of potential here, and I hope you guys develop it a little further!
I find the brushing to be a bit finnicky, and it doesn't really add much to the gameplay since I already know what the item is from picking it up. It also feels a bit strange that someone is stated to be the prime suspect with no input from me. I like the art and the vibes, could be very fun with some polish and love after the jam!
The Persona 5 chat UI is really nice also the paper-like character design and icon with those white cutout backgroud is really lovely to see, welp this is because I always love those kind of art style. I also didn’t expect that kind of game ending, it’s quite funny.
But to be honest after playing this game the story kinda let down for me. I assume this is your attempt to showcase the gameplay loop of your current VN project so there are no proper story to tell in this game.
First, maybe adding some brief exposition at start of game to tell the story of this case would be nice, it’s not to be fancy and can be just wall of text is enough, or you can do the same thing with what you guys doing in end game cutscene.
Second, adding some feedback on UI when hovering the UI element would be good QOL to player. I almost think the “back” button is bugged because I cannot press it only to know you should press the center one to go back.
Third, the game flow is too linear even for VN point and click game. Why we need to collect all the clue first before doing the cleaning mini game? After then we need to introgate the suspect first before can do next cleaning game. I think having some kind of freedom to do the things based on current hint item state will be much better than forced to do something in a specific order.
Welp if it’s really just kinda glimps of you current project, I kinda wish to play the full version of the game when it released because this type of game is my cup of tea afterall, especially with your character art style.
Still, lovely submission from your guys, cheers~ (^o^)/
