Welcome back to Feedback Quest!  Sorry for the delay in posting the review.  I'm very behind in these, and will keep the text portion short.  Great progress since last year! The new enemies, townies, and weapons all were pretty cool to experience.  I didn't get too far into the game this time, but it was a very lovely experience.  In the (button click?) SFX, there seems to be a very deep bass component that is somewhat uncomfortable to experience (this doesn't come through in the VOD as I've got a compressor that limits the volume output for viewers).  Also, in the VOD I mention that there's a graphical tear, but I wouldn't worry about it, my PC ended up crashing later in the stream, so it's likely related to that rather than the game itself.

The VOD for the review is linked below, and will be available for 60 days:

Hey! With FQ9 ending soon, I wanted to let you know that I won't be able to cover your game until after the event. If you're okay with waiting, just keep the game on the event and I'll be getting around to it over the next couple of months or so. :)

  • Youtube Link / Twitch Link
  • Graphics : The Style is fine but there's a lot of little small issues, clipping , off placement, etc
    • The houses are perfectly flat
    • Not keen on the hard black wall between each room before walking in
  • GUI : Mostly Fine
    • The font on main menu and options have a very rough outline around them that could be trimmed
  • Performance : Fine
  • Music / Sfx :
    • Music : Mostly Fine , variety would be nice
    • SFX : Bit lackluster
  • Gameplay :  A very slow G rated BoI / Action / Dungeon Crawler
  • Notes :
    • It feels very slow overall , no weapon fires particularly fast, no weapons is inherently better than any other damage wise so there isn't really any weapons you try to aim for on obtaining in a run, reload for weapons across the board are pretty slow and enemies feel far too spongy.
      • The 'sniper rifle' is a good example I feel of how underwhelming the weapons are , it's a charge to fire weapon but even at full charge, it's practically only doing the same amount of damage as the starter pistol in that same time frame.
    • Weapons really could do with some random stats , even if there's a base value to go off. Once you settle on a weapon, that's it, more so if you get the +1 damage shop upgrades.
    • The screen shake could be improved
    • The dash could do with an improvement , there could be something to glean how much time is left before it comes back and whether it's ready
    • Certain weapons like the chicken could really lean into the fact it's a rather silly idea with it's sound design
    • Boss AI could do with an improvement , at the least the 'Nana Bros' , they just backpedal and can get themselves stuck, there's zero challenge to it as they stand there accepting you shooting them.
    • There's a large amount of downtime post-reload where you cannot fire feels rather bada
    • Why is there a sticker collection , what does it do, at the least they could be a meta-upgrade to actually boost future runs
    • A map or the least a pointer to the portal would be nice.
  • Final Thoughts : Overall this really feels like it's taken a few steps back from last year , the game's name including mayhem feels like a bit of a misnomer atm as everything is incredibly slow paced.

I love the story and the character sprites! I want to enjoy it more, but the early game is lacking in texture. It feels like I'm trudging through samey hallways and when I finally find an enemy spawner I just stand still and hold fire. More reliable access to upgraded guns to use all of the ammo drops and more varied encounters would be major helpers.

I previously played this last year and gave the updated version a try. Still a fun and enjoyable roguelike . Controls are good, and controller support is always a plus! I didn't explore as much as last year, but the progress is excellent!

SO, I am a hardcore Sar player- 1.5k hrs
And I saw the Cute animal plushy things, with all the guns and stuff and I KNEW I had to play this game XD

The game loop is really similar to Enter the gungeon. So dungeon exploration, bullet hell, Roguelike collecting and all of that fancy stuff. Altho the difference between these games, is the TTK in this one is insanely long, especially if you aren't lucky. And I finished the game (except for Shuffle area) so I can say some stuff about it!

Feedback/Issues (Major to minor):

  1. It's not specific, but the combat is very Understimulating. It takes ridiculously long to beat enemies, because your gun is weak, or enemies have a lot of health, theres a heavy lack of engagement, and i find myself to be repeating a sequence of inputs on the keyboard.
  2. Pausing the game gives you invincibility towards bullets
  3. The cake's collision can be abused, and you can idle behind fire
  4. The pure black void outside of the first area feels a bit bleak
  5. Music doesn't loop, and It doesn't feel good when it suddenly stops
  6. No map for finding the portal
  7. Trap cake is really easy because there are no walls

It does get more fun later on (especially orange mango area) but I'm reminded how long and boring it is at the byte area. And I do feel it heavily relies on roguelike progressions
It is a solid game tho, And I still feel like it's worth a try, It's  a cute game!
