How does the game fit the theme?
The game constantly subverts and tricks you. Leaving you to have little trust in your environment. ontop of this, there are random events that can trigger that can make each playthrough slightly different, so even the players can't trust each other

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
I only used just used a bit of my code from a previous game. That's about it. I also used Juju Adam's Scribble text plugin for dialogue.

How many people worked on the game?

Nice demo. It doesn't fit the theme very well, aside from some pits being explorable and others are not but both look the same.

Developer(+1)

seems like you were expecting the theme to be baked into the game mechanics from the example you gave, which i can understand, though, there are other things in the game that happen besides some pits not being secrets. the game's "trust no one" theme comes from the narrative im spinning, the secrets you may find, and npcs you meet with throughout the game(unfortunately i don't wanna spoil it for anyone so i suggest you replay it). it's not a mechanic of the game but the whole world itself is set around this theme. sorry for the confusion.

very cute and cool game, but the controls were quite hard to use, giving the player the option to use WASD for movement and clicking to mine would be great.

the pogo-ing really reminded me of another game called ANTONBLAST

Developer(+1)

ah i see, though i honestly think clicking to mine is kinda awkward and weird as someone who mainly uses a touchpad mouse on a laptop, ig to me that sort of control scheme would only work on a shooter game where you aim with the mouse and shoot by clicking, guess just personally to me i don't think that would work, but wasd is a good suggestion, but if you didn't like the arrow keys the game does have controller support

Didn't really get how this fit the theme but cool game i guess

Awesome game! I like how it looks, and the extra mechanics/secrets. I don't quite get the neon tiles. The blocks don't seem to be reset after exiting so if you don't go to that one room then you can't get into it. After exiting the tutorial the second time  I came out of the door on the right weirdly. The pogo is interesting but hard, annoying and doesn't seem that usefull. The last little thing I have is that there is alot of text and it isn't easy to read, although I do understand that there is a big time constraint.
6.7/10, it has it's own vibe.
Please make sure to rate my game too if you have the time!

Developer (1 edit)

thanks for playing, I do want to say a couple things, the blocks not resetting is intentional so that you can't just exit and re enter and essentially just get infinite money. that would be an issue posed if i did things that way. and ontop of that, not being able to go into that one room after breaking the blocks is also intentional. it's not a room thats mandatory for you to go into, think of it like a bonus that works towards a secret ending. and the character in that room warns you not to break those blocks so that you're aware to be careful. and finally, those neon tiles exist for story reasons, story reasons i can't go into in the comments as to not spoil it for others. Maybe consider replaying the game and taking notice of when these blocks seem to appear is all ill say. thank you for your other concerns though!

Oh, I see for the neon tiles. As for the exit, I meant like when you exit (win) and play again, not just exiting a room.

Really really loved it omg!! Really great entry... Usually for gamejam games like these it's hard to find time to make secrets and a narrative like yours did, even though it seemed simple gameplay wise, I really enjoyed going through it, lovely work!

Developer

thank you so much i really appreciate it!!!

Really cute game, the narrative and exploration elements are strong. I had trouble getting the pogoing down but it’s fun when I managed to do it.

Great entry <3

enjoyed my time playing this game! i really got nothing much else to say lol

Fun cute platformer. I enjoyed the pickaxe bounce mechanic and its particular spin on this kind of physics-adjacent platforming. The ways in which it fits the theme felt a little superficial but I did still like it overall.

The game has solid mechanics and an interesting approach to jumping, as well as very nice graphics, but I have a hard time seeing how the game ties into the theme.

Developer

it fits the trust no one theme as not only does the game and its world tricks you throughout it, the whole story that's being hinted out coincides with the theme of trusting no one, as well as secrets that allude to something bigger. most of the npcs also screw you over in some way too. thanks though!

Oooh, okay, okay, the game turned out really well anyway. Congratulations! :D

nice movement and environment. I only  got the regular ending. I feel like there is a glitch cause when you reset some blocks are missing for example the one that spawns the bats didn't appear after my first run. Really liked it tho good job !

Developer

oh i see haha, thanks!

The games pretty good, the size of the pick throws me out of the game a bit but the movements are nice and fluid and it plays well, awesome work!

thanks! when you mean by it throws you out of the game you mean as in it throws you out of bounds or out of the experience?

Submitted

The experience, i didn't find any bugs

bookmarked this one because it released like right before ours haha. I liked the way that expectations were subverted, and while the visuals were pretty simplistic in nature I liked the parallax and also the way that the cave background was always changing colors. I got 190 coins, and my only real gameplay feedback is I think it might've felt a little more intuitive to bundle the interact prompt with just pressing up when you're near the thing, since that doesn't jump anyways iirc, and less buttons is always awesome

Definitely fits the theme! Loved the art, cute lil guy! was the game lying about mining blocks from the top to gain speed? I was like, this doesnt feel like im movin faster lol

Developer

you gain speed if you mine  without touching the ground at all, especially if you mine multiple at a time, haha, meant to reward skillful pogoing!

This is a very fun game! I don't know why I trusted so much until like halfway when I got the option to bank. Nice job on the game and mechanics!
