Some questions regarding rules, to not be disqualified :)

Just to be really sure, and not be disqualified "before" the jam starts, a couple of questions:

What can I work on before the jam?

You are allowed to set up your tools and your game engine. Tools include: palettes, fonts, tracker instruments and code libraries. Anything that is specific to a particular idea should wait until the jam starts.

Does this mean i could already setup a gitrepo for me and my team today? At this time i don't have proper templates, so i'd love to avoid going through all that hurdle tomorrow.

Same for Unity project. That could also be created, and some basic project settings be done?

Regarding these sections of FAQ:

Making Things

All game-specific code, audio, and art assets must be created by you and your team during the jam period. You may use pre-existing fonts. Any game engine features and code libraries for general utilities are also allowed.

Can I use public domain assets?

No. Music, art and programming must be provided by the people entering the jam. This is to encourage teaming up with other users to make the best game you can!

So i could also import engine stuff like input/camera (without setting things up), my own simple "event framework"(some event channels for work in editor, so not everything has to be scripted) or some script to strip development and platform specific stuff from builds, but no libraries from 3rd party, even if public domain (e.g. some tweening, editor buttons or whatever).

It's the spirit of jams to only work in that time, and with the things you made during that period, i know. But some basically "empty" project setup to start with is ok?

Sure, you can set up a git repo. The rule is mostly directed at writing any gameplay related code, so you're welcome to set up your Unity project, ie: viewport stuff, inputs, camera etc. If you've already built that before you can even copy it across from an older project. It makes no sense to rewrite these kind of things.
So yeah, feel free to set up your framework and repo so it's ready to start building your game!

Thank you for your answer!

We have absolutely no clue what we will be creating at this time, we will make it completely dependent on the theme. :)

Not sure yet if i'm going to try out a newer version for this jam. And i got not much to bring into here anyways :D In the past i've mostly done some prototyping etc, nothing worth "porting" unfortunately. But importing stuff in unity like their input system, camera etc can only be done sequentially (without copying older projects, writing package files by hand, import scripts etc), so this is nice  to do some time later already.

Another thing just came to my mind, which i can't find anything about in the rules. Is it required to have the source online, in our case our GitHub repo? If so, is it enough if there's just my code included, or do the source assets like animations and audio from other team members also have to be included? Or how are you making sure in general that teams won't "cheat"?

There's no verification. This isn't like Global Game Jam where we want a zip of all assets/scripts involved. The only thing you need to submit is the itch page with your game on it.

Cheating is rare in this jam because it's generally someone submitting their game to every jam they can find like a shotgun blast and, simply put, those submissions always fail our most basic requirements and are easy to weed out.

Additionally, there's no prizes- so no one who genuinely wants to take part is really incentivised to cheat as there's no reward.

Sounds like you and your team are really energised for the jam though, I hope you all have fun!

Thank you!

Makes total sense what you're saying regarding cheating.

Well, for now i'm really energized :D First time participating in this jam and it has really cool restrictions. Just hoping for a theme my team likes and brings us a cool idea :)

Anyways, thank you again (also for hosting this jam), and all the best to you!
