How does the game fit the theme?
COUNTED [TRUST NO ONE] explores the theme through an authoritarian narrative centered around quotas, tallies, and systemic deception:

The Narrative & Core Premise:
"Every citizen counts."

You play as Unit 9, a Directorate Enforcer deployed to Sector 9 to investigate and purge a ration ledger discrepancy.

The Conflict:
As you navigate the sector, you discover the physical tally was deliberately falsified to starve workers while the Directorate's official broadcast claims all quotas are met.

Branching Outcomes Based on What You Do With the Tally: The gameplay mechanics and moral choices revolve around evidence leverage and counting.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Engine & Framework:
Built on CyberVGA, our custom in-house software rasterizer and fixed-point engine (Win64 / DOS Mode X) developed by Burak Yazar (Novus Idea), including the SMIX Sound Blaster audio mixer, fixed-point math library, and physics collision routines.

Character Models & Rigs:
Base voxel character meshes were adapted from the Voxel Dystopian Pack by Max Parata, rigged via Mixamo, and rendered into 8-directional sprite sheets.

Tooling:
Map layout generation and CMS mesh exporting utilize custom Python scripts run within Blender.

Original Work Made for the Jam:
All game gameplay logic, level designs (Barracks Hub, Ration Block, Generator Core), UI/HUD, story writing, dialogue, and original title soundtrack (MAINOF.wav) were created during the jam.

Code examples used in jam:

Characters:

Textures:
All textures except character meshes are handmade in GIMP.

I liked the style, sort of lethal company shaders. The UI was a bit bugged.  It was fun to shoot the guards and traverse the map. Good Job!

Developer

Thank you for playing and kind words. This game is built on our in-house engine/framework CyberVGA, if you’re interested in retro game development we offer free SDK.

I escaped via the service tunnel. But on my way I had a few bugs:

  1. Moving mouse slowly does not work. Probably you added a "dead zone" with low mouse delta, but that made accurate aiming more difficult.
  2. The UI messages at the top were overflowing over the border.
  3. The van had no collider, I could move inside it.
  4. The last guy with the key(?) was stuck in his get shot image. Only when I shoot him multiple times more, then he was gone.

Other than that, I wasn't really knowing which areas are connected to others. There was no visual clue, but it teleported me then to another area. That was weird. I thought I would never find a way, but I did somehow.

While the audio, art, and gameplay is kept like old doom, the theme was not really present for me. Also I am not a fan of that old school style, as it is hard to read and causes eye strains, but that is not your fault here.

Cool game! I didnt really get what was goin on. The font is not very legible. First run I loose because was followed and hitted by a cop, second one I realiced I can shot back and end up in the van and the credits roll.I think the atmosphere, sprites and sound is really cool!

Developer

I faced a bug where I couldn't open the door and was stuck alone in a room. I didn't get to play a lot before that but from what little I have played I'll say the music was great and I got a little jump scare from the lady which was very fitting. Good job! (If you have time, please play and rate our game too)
