I used to work at a retro game store, and the original Game Boy Tetris was by far the game that sold most consistently.

I’d love to see more that separates this from standard Tetris and leans harder into the gold digging. Maybe clearing a line could blast out the blocks below so you can drill down toward the gold?

Anyway, your game got me thinking, which is always a good sign. Very cool achievement building this from scratch. Kudos!

Yeah, the first thing that comes to my mind when someone says Gameboy is tetris lmao. You're right, theres a whole world to explore with this game. I plan to work on it further. Thanks for playing!

Hell yeah, Tetris with treasure digging! Absolute power move to make everything from scratch in OpenGL!
Sure, ye might've not gotten everything ye wanted implemented, but for what you've created, this stuff is really cool!
Good joj!

Thanks for the kind words :DDD

I also applied the libraries you provided. I can't imagine a submission should be judged because of something that has nothing to do with the content of your game, so I'm rating it on its own merits.

Aside from anything you already mentioned about it, the gameplay works well mechanically! OpenGL from scratch is ambitious, so absolutely kudos to you for getting it to this state in such a short period of time. I do like the idea as it's a bit different than another submission I've seen in a similar vein, but it would be cool to see some variance in how that unearthing works.

You did a great job friend, and I hope your move went well!

Abt the libraries, I hope so... I can't imagine it getting any places anyways but still lmao

Thanks for playing!! openGL IS quite ambitious but I also like having complete control over the database (or at least, a lot of control) so it was really fun for me (until I had to finish it quickly lmao). Not my first rodeo with opengl but this was also my first finished project

I did want to make the treasure sprite bigger to have like, 3 columns you gotta worry about instead of 1. Also some rebalancing and a score could improve the gameplay greatly. I might work on this game post-jam tbh, I love how it looks and I love the idea

Got it to work, and it is indeed tetris! I can't say it really meets the theme of the jam beyond feeling like gameboy, and to be honest even for tetris i'm surprised you didn't go with blocks that appeared different from one another.
That being said, it works and I had some fun playing tetris. There was a bug where a line did not complete, and another bug where a piece stopped rotating despite having enough room, but all in all i was able to largely play normal games of tetris! Good job
Edit: to be fair, the unearthing coin block thing is a wrinkle on tetris, and I do commend you for doing all this while dealing with real life stuff. That in itself is a feat worthy of praise!
Second edit: I rated the gameplay based on (a) if it worked being basically tetris and (b) not working on launch. Please don't take it personally, it's a fair rating given all the circumstances and ANY JAM you survive to hit "submit" on is an accomplishment!
My first jam submission (phaze killer) was riddled with bugs on launch, and received poor review despite having some cool core mechanics.
Keep making games and hope to see you in another jam!

All good man, your criticism is valid I very much appreciate it! Any personal issue I had is seperate from my work, and any good faith criticism is just another opportunity to learn so I genuinely appreciate it!

There are a lot of bugs and the blocks not rotating isn't necessarily a bug but an ooooold implementation of rotation behaving that way (if the blocks collide with borders on rotation, the rotation gets cancelled. Modern tetris deals with this by finding a suitable spot for the rotated tetromino instead of canceling).

Part of why the coin thing doesn't feel very substantial is that there is no score, no win screen or any indication that you are progressing the game other than the game getting more difficult at every reset methinks. Thanks for sharing your experience :D

Thanks for playing, see ya :)

I'm sorry to say I got the following error when trying to run this application:
"The code execution cannot proceed because libwinpthread-1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

If you have a solution, I'd love to try this game!

Oh whelp... I can't edit the submission so that's that I guess. Some library files are missing. I added the library files needed to the drive below. I messed this all up because it was my first time actually distributing a project I made... Well, this might get me disqualified from the jam but people won't be able to play the game anyways so I'd like some people to play it at least.

You can take these files and just paste it next to Treatris.exe. Thanks for letting me know, you're a real lifesaver!
