How does your game meet GBJam's theme
This game is about a Fun Boy handheld device that goes on an adventure that takes him across various areas that value Fun Boys and game cartridges in certain ways (The Kingdom area has King Cartridge that is obsessed with collecting only the rarest cartridges - seeing only value in their rarity, quality and price tag - no other qualities. The King demands that you find this mysterious cartridge - since it must be extremely valuable. However, you can fight against the tyrannical King and his army to overcome his obsession with this mysterious cartridge)
The main goal of this game was to not just have a physical goal of finding this mysterious cartridge - but to embark on an adventure where you will meet other fellow retro consoles and cartridges along your journey - learning and appreciating this part of the videogame development journey and understanding how far game development has come since the late 80's/ 90's.
These games may be old, but the experience and memories made from playing them are the real gold.

I liked the graphics and gameplay but I got confuse on what to do and just end up explore wherever I could, the ambience is good and very in pair with what a game boy game used to feel like. Overall Good job :D
For whatever reason I used auto during fights and I always fail! Oh and also why did you ignore the Soundtrack and SFX part? You must include sound in your project! And also, It's quite hard to tell which of these square platforms send you to where unless you step on them... Try better next time, alright?
Thanks for playing!
Oh, this is the first time I'm hearing about the auto-fight issue - let me check the logic and see what is going on.
Funny enough, there should be music and SFX playing - not sure what happened - another piece of logic I gotta check out. ^_^"
Yeah, there are still a few placeholder sprites I didn't have time to finish but I'll fix it up (and I'm in the middle of updating the layouts)
The next update should help make this game a bit better. ;D
nice prototype, confusing layout
Thanks for playing!
Yes, I am definitely updating the map + layouts for the game. XD
Even though it's still a prototype, the vibes are very promising. It captures the classic Game Boy style really well, and I especially liked the character sprites and the overall tone.
It took me a little while to understand how to move around, but considering the current state of the project, that's understandable.
Definitely a promising start!
Thanks for playing!
Glad you liked the characters - art is my favorite aspect of game design/ development.
I'll improve the controls - I was noticing some issues with the gamepad and some of the alternative controls.
Yeah, I was kinda rushing when putting it all together at the end. ^_^"
Next time I'm only going to do 1 level. XD
It's a bit of a mess but I'll clean it up in the next build/ update.
Thanks again! :D
like the idea , good job
Thanks for playing!
Glad you liked the idea!
There was still so much I wanted to add - now that the jam is over - I can update at a much more comfortable pace. :3
Nice idea making the hero the handheld itself, a fun boy going looking for the one cartridge nobody has is a sharp read of old gold. and the menu already has a codex and a quest log. good rpg scaffolding, being around for most of the 80's 90's development myself, i loved the idea, great job
Thanks for playing! :D
Glad you liked the idea - I definitely bit off than I can chew - but exactly, I got the bones for an RPG game that I can continue to develop! >:D
And neat, I am a big fan of the 80's and 90's RPG's (Dragon Warrior IV is my favorite of the NES RPG games) - so hopefully I can further develop and refine it to something of that level. :D
