The concept is interesting, tho the combat feels a little janky (lil ass sword). Good game!

The game is quite short, but it has an interesting concept and name lol. I got confused when I had to press B to pick up the bomb after grabbing the sword, even though the game icon showed A. Also, after the second attempt after picking up the heart, it wasn’t possible to have both the sword and the bomb at the same time. Other than that, it’s a really fun little game, congrats on the hard work!

NOT THE LONG LIGHT NOVEL TITLE!!!! Very amusing theme, cute graphics! I was a bit confused with the throwing dynamic

Developer

That’s fair! We had to cut a lot for time, but one of the original ideas was that items would break and you could throw them. We also planned to be able to throw things to do things like hit switches you couldn’t navigate to or throw bombs into the mouths of mimics. In hindsight, it was a little ambitious lol.

I’m glad the feel of the game is vibing with people though. I think there’s an interesting game here if we spend some time polishing and reintroducing some of our original ideas.

the soundtrack is great! i would suggest making the player/enemy range a bit higher with the sword since it takes multiple hits to kill them, but i loved their interaction and movement. good stuff!

sounds like an isekai anime

Great title, and making the mimics look exactly like the chests you came to loot means every chest in the graveyard is a gamble. the screen shift between rooms feels straight out of links awakening too. nice job

Nice small game. I really like the art style and the audio. An issue I have noticed though is that gold doesn't reset when you win/die. Also, the winning isn't telegraphed the best (I at first thought I've died when I picked up the end heart).

The hitboxes are also a bit annoying with how short your sword is and with how much larger the bomb hitbox seems compared to the sprite. I would also consider switching the keyboart inputs to either WASD, J, K or Arrow Keys, Z, X.

Loved the music, it really set the pace for the gameplay. Also, the shifting to another room was very nicely done. What did you use to make the music if I may ask?

Developer(+2)

Thank you! I used FL Studio to lay everything out but I used a couple of plugins to emulate the gameboy sound. I used a couple of modified presets from soraboy for the bassier parts and leads and the magical 8 bit for some of their percussion sounds.

Great little game! The mimics have such a character to their look! I really wanted to blow up those cracked rocks, but seems like it wasn't meant to be for this jam. The music is an absolute delight as well.  Great job!

Developer(+2)

Thank you! We wanted to have a lot more destructible elements, but we had to leave a lot unfinished. The bombable wall iirc went in like an hour before we submitted lol.

Developer(+2)

Yeah I was worried I wouldn't finish it haha but I'm glad we got it in b/c I really like watching it get destroyed xD

Silly idea. The title was funny. The game's concept was a bit on the why side but overall it was enjoyable.

Developer(+2)

Thank you! We wanted to do a lot more the mimics for sure. The initial thought was that each room had chests in it and you had to sus out which ones were safe to open with various means, but we got crunched for time.

Classic Game Boy vibes. The game looks great at smaller viewport/screen sizes. Reserving the use of the darkest shade for sprite outlines works well, and I like the stone path tiles in particular. I had some issues with the controls, but the whimsical music kept me patient as I learned the quirks. I figured out that "pacifist runs" are possible, and even the sword is optional. Intended or not, it brought my enjoyment up a level.

Developer(+2)

thank you! We certainly need to play test interactions, and we wanted to explore other options of dealing with the mimics. It was such a scramble at the end that I’m surprised we got what we do have in tbh. 😅

Not gonna lie, you had me at the elaborate overly long anime sentence title. Thought the mimic was gonna turn into a waifu or something . I really love the sharp and bold sprites, greatly reminded me of  link's awakening. I had some issues where i got a bit stuck on parts of the background. but overall awesome game!

Developer(+1)

Haha thank you. When were were coming up with ideas, the only thing that was non-negotiable was that the name was a crazy anime title. We actually did want to have more interesting interactions with the mimic that would be more than just fighting them, but you know, game jams and scope. If we continue working on it, we do have some cool ideas that were scrapped that would be more in line with a "mimic dating sim."

"Oh! I see! It's a pun! What a shame; I was hoping for some container romance."

Competent prototype! A little clarification on the throwing mechanics would have been helpful, but I got the hang of it and stole the heart. The art is readable and buoyant, and the mimic (which is cute) has a strong design. The music is spooky and foreboding, while still pressing the action forward!

Good work. Congratulations on the submission!

thank you for the kind words! We ended up with a lot of half-cooked mechanics that got scrapped for time, but one thing I wanted to do was have a way to charm mimics to sneak around them or lead them into traps. I’ve done a couple of these jams, but I’ve never quite gotten a handle on a scope that is realistic for the limited time.

I’m looking forward to trying out your game!
