How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Gold plays a big role throughout the game, and it's even in the title. Some of the gold found in the game is also pretty old...

This game is awesome. Music, art, adventure, really encompasses the gameboy soul. Great job, and I'm looking forward to seeing where you take the game!
Thank you! :)
Yes, i will definitely realize the full vision of the game soon, which i had to cut short in the end!
Im already super hyped myself about the rest of the content xD (already working hard on it!)
Contrary to expectations, it's rare that a GBS game really captures the Game Boy soul, especially of a proper adventure. This game manages to do that from the get go. I did find some humor in its demo state, like the sage telling me how useful the book is and the protagonist is just like "nice, happy for you".
The sunset scene is a banger. This would be a choice use case for GBS's tile animation IMO (which I saw used in the water, also a great use).
The music puzzle was pretty fun. It took me a sec to realize it was one because I was thinking about the sound effect and how GBS should bundle its own solution for them, before I realized it was a "wrong" buzzer. Soundtrack overall enhanced the world, with a feel like Pokemon Red/Blue.
I almost gave up vs the Pegasus Knight, but they ragebaited me enough to stick with it. Then after I won, they stood on same tile as me to prevent me from moving. (I got out using the pause menu)
Feature request: let us pet the dog.
Thank you for that feedback! And for playing! :)
Wow, i had no idea about the Tile Animation in GBS yet! (I used GBS the first time ever for this jam, and i utterly love it!)
(I used actors for the water tile animations btw)
Yea it's weird that you can end up stuck on Pegasus Knight in the end, it happened to me a few times aswell, will look into that!
I took note of your feature request! :)
GBS may be the tool for you then. I personally love it too. I feel like many GBS games are carried by the templates, but you are figuring out how to bring things to life yourself, which will set you apart from the pack.
I found a diamond in the haystack. I haven't rated a game all 5 stars in everything until I played this. I tried to finish your game but I think you said its not complete yet so I managed to get 2 puzzle pieces from the cave, fishing , and then the running shoes. I exhausted the world to find it but even the old guy said "it might be impossible to find all pieces at this time" What a great demo then! I like how the things you are working on are under construction or blocked off. I loved figuring out I can move the boulders, and loved figuring out how to cheat the race. Now the most important thing I loved was how much it reminded me about Pokemon. I haven't played pokemon in years especially the old pokemon. Its been a while. The "old fishing rod", the fishing mechanic, the multiple dialog with npcs when you hit them more than once on them, the variety of dialog, the twins dialog, the "cave", the boulders blocking the cave and you having to use strength to use them, the running shoes and learning you can run, the under construction areas, the water art, the art in general. There were Japanese styled art based on the scene with the sunset from the clouds and mountains.
I played it thouroughly and its polished, very polished and I wanted to play more!
small bug When you find puzzle piece when fishing it plays the music but then background music doesnt start after you get it
The music is amazing you have a variety of music in the game for when you are in the cave, getting a puzzle, different areas, the twister sound, and more so 5 stars.
I love your game, it made me miss pokemon, it made me realize why old gold or why old games are so good. Why pokemon was good. Why I liked it. (5 stars on theme) I loved figuring it out on my own. Now these days most people don't have the patience to figure out the game's mechanic and need to know the controls for everything or answer on how to do it. But I love games where you learn the controls through the world. And this was done right. Especially because I loved the world enough to keep playing and want to figure it out. You created a beautiful world and honestly this was a huge inspiration to me so thank you. I will save this game.
Your feedback on it's own made the whole jam worth it for me. Thank you <3
There is nothing that makes me happier than to inspire someone.
It's so nice to hear that it reminded you of the good ol' pokemon games... They are some of my biggest inspirations, and had a huge impact on my life!
And well, since you wanna play more i got good news for you! I will develop the rest of the game after the rating period is over! I'm already working on it! :)
and btw, there is one piece that you can still discover ;)
I'm super impressed how much art you managed to get done in the jam period! The music was nice and it was a good time, vibes wise. I like the puzzle in the cave, but struggled hard in the race hahaha
thank you so much! :)
Yea, the race is a bit on the harder side i know, but i wanted to have somewhat of a harder challenge in the game too, a bit of that hardcore vibe of the old games. i hope it wasn't too much of a pain xD
No no, it was definitely still fun! It felt more like a puzzle race which I found neat
best scene ive encountered in the game, cheers to that :3 (that was a lovely sunset to enjoy for a minute too :D)
im very happy to hear that ^^ thanks!
