what I like about this game is I am bad at chess, so this is a fun new different way to still be bad at chess. I did not make it very far, but it is a cool concept and the little arena drawn around the board was cool.

I liked the art style. The sound effect was cute.
The concept is good, but I think that the AI is a bit unfair. They can move twice per turn (both pieces) while I can do only one move. Furthermore, if your pawn does not get eaten and reaches the end of the chessboard, it cannot be moved from there...
I think that there is little connection to the theme though.
thanks for playing, but in most games the ais are usually so much stronger than the humans with the ais taking a few hits to kill the humans but the humans takes a lot more hits and the pawns were meant to be expendable
I love chess, I love chess games! This was an interesting take on the game.
Gameplay itself was fun to figure out. I like the mechanics, they keep things interesting.
Graphics are good and easily readable.
No soundtrack, minimal fx. Can't give high marks for that, sadly.
Gameboy soul is here, it has the feel of something that might have been on the GBC.
Quirkiness is present, the idea is certainly unique.
Secondary theme interpretation is... uh... well... yeah. No. You already know this, I read the other comments. Sorry, friend.

It's so easy to get caught up in design and forget the theme. It happens!
This is a fun take on chess! The gameplay looks like it has some depth that is unexpected at first.
I just think that the connection to the theme of the Jam is a bit obscure. I get the the pieces are supposed to be made of gold but that's a bit of a stretch in my opinion.

It is definitely a unique concept, and I think with more time this could really develop into something great. But as of now, I think the fact that it generally doesn't obey the rules of chess super well (pawns can't seem to be promoted, the king has no real significance, etc.) makes the whole thing feel a bit uncanny.
Great job nonetheless though, this seems like it would have been insane to program in a week.

Cool game, the concept of endless challenge mixed to chess problems is quite nice. I would have loved to listen to some music because I think it's the missing "piece" :D

Fun take on chess, had some pieces seem to bug out on the back line but nothing show stopping. I really liked the art of all the pieces, nice job!
Please can you elaborate what you mean by bugging
I had a king and I think a bishop both stop being interactable when reaching the back line, then when the new black pieces came out they covered them but didn't delete them, they were just stuck there the whole time sort of like ghost pieces.
Yeah I just saw it I fixed it but I can't post the fixed version for now
Final score was 36 for me. Took me a minute to figure out how it worked but once I did it was a decent play. I really enjoyed the survival idea implemented with chess, just needs more juice. Definitely a good submission to the jam!
