Talk about a demanding customer!

Well... darn. The thumbnail looks cool.

Such a cute game! I'm a sucker for anything featuring good boys. The mechanics are good. I sometimes felt like the controls were not my friend, but I found your fixed version that that seemed to improve things. Guess it was my fps rate. Anyway, it was pretty fun.

Graphics are great, they easily read and the dog is cute.

Sound FX meet expectations but I was bummed there was no music.

Gameboy Soul is bursting out of this. This would have totally been in my collection of carts.

Quirkiness is also here, it's a unique take on platforming.

Secondary theme interpretation: There is gold, I assume it is old. Ya got it!

Really fun game! It eventually got pretty challenging, but I always suck at timing mechanics. I never felt like the game cheated me, the mistakes felt completely my own so that's difficulty done right. I got defeated a few times but kept coming back, it was a good time!

Graphics are fantastic. The black, red, and gold is striking and creates a cool vibe. The art for the capn' is great, he looks cute.

Soundtrack and FX are here, nothing standout but also nothing grating. It meets expectations!

Gameboy Soul is here, this would have totally been on the shelf back in the day when I was deciding what to bring home from Toys 'R Us.

Quirkiness is pretty good, this is pretty unique. The banter added to a quirky feeling to it.

Secondary theme interpretation: There is gold, I assume it is old. Interpretation check met.

Fun game! I suck at it, but I kept trying anyway because I was having a blast.

Graphics are great, it has a lot of character and the art style is memorable!

Soundtrack and fx sound good, pretty on point for a real Gameboy release.

Gameboy Soul is here, this definitely has like, Warioware vibes and I love that.

Quirkiness: The minigames are so off the wall! Very quirky

Secondary theme interpretation: It's a little bit of a stretch but I'll say it was a clever subversion of the expectation around it and give it a yes.

This was really cool, I enjoyed it. The minigames kept things fresh and interesting, and it was fun to dig through things and see what I could find. Had a good time!

Graphics are fantastic, I really like the art and I'm a sucker for the classic GB palette with those greens.

Soundtrack and fx sounded like a legit game, so solid there.

Gameboy Soul is for sure here. This would have gone on the shelf alongside Warioware.

Quirkiness is high, it's very unique and has a vibe all its own.

Bravo on the theme interpretation! The old gold being your Gameboy and trying to restore its working order really hit me in the feels.

Always a fan of your stuff on any platform, man.

Go Go Kobold! is pretty fun and kinda got addicting for a bit. I felt like the mechanics are great, the controls are pretty responsive. Sorting games are always so simple to grasp and difficult to master, it's the perfect short session gaming. My only complaint is that the dragon's preferences flash by a bit too fast for my brain to register. I often found myself going "wait, what did she say?"

Graphics are fantastic, your art is so friggin' cute. The dragon is the most adorable face melter. The green and gold palette is a color combination I really like, it's beautiful and sets a good vibe.

Sound and fx are good, nothing standout but also nothing grating.

Gameboy Soul is found here, this thing would have totally been on my GBC and I would have died a million times in the backseat of the car as I played.

Quirkiness is here too. While sorting games have always been a thing, this one somehow felt like a fresh take on it. I didn't want to disappoint the dragon!

Secondary theme: There is gold, it's probably old. Check and check.

It's so easy to get caught up in design and forget the theme. It happens!

Very fun game. As a dungeon crawler fan I loved the gameplay. I detest backpack/inventory management, it was always my least favorite thing in Diablo I & II. But the ability to reorient things made the management into a puzzle minigame of its own and that was good.

Graphics are fantastic, I absolutely love the art. Extremely well done with a very unique style.

Soundtrack is good, music sets a nice mood and the sound fits.

Gameboy Soul is here, I could see a game playing like this on an old GB.

Quirkiness is here, the game is certainly unique!

Secondary theme interpretation: There's gold, it is old. Check and check!

Loved this, easily one of the most fun games of the jam for me.

Gameplay took a bit to get the hang of but the frantic scanning of the board, deciding where to mine, and racing to beat the clock with the biggest haul was exciting. Some controls felt like they didn't work but I saw in the other comments you know about the issues with turbo. I also experienced something where A and B kept changing places in the controls. Like the game would be telling me to press A, I'd press Z and nothing happened. I pressed Z again, nothing happened. I pressed X and the game acted as if A was pressed but X is B. This swap happened to me a few times, seemed to only happen on the blocks where I had to alternate between A and B to mine.

Graphics were incredible, such fantastic art. The palette is perfection. I love the purple.

Soundtrack is full of bangers. I hung out on the title screen for a good long while just to bop along. I also really liked the crunchy voice fx.

Gameboy soul? Heck yes.

Quirkiness? Heeeeck yes.

Secondary theme interpretation: There is gold, it is old. Interpretation is on point in a creative way.

Great job, y'all!

I love chess, I love chess games! This was an interesting take on the game.

Gameplay itself was fun to figure out. I like the mechanics, they keep things interesting.

Graphics are good and easily readable.

No soundtrack, minimal fx. Can't give high marks for that, sadly.

Gameboy soul is here, it has the feel of something that might have been on the GBC.

Quirkiness is present, the idea is certainly unique.

Secondary theme interpretation is... uh... well... yeah. No. You already know this, I read the other comments. Sorry, friend.

That's the second biggest insult fight I've ever seen!

As a fellow Monkey Island fan I completely got the concept and figured it out. I could see why it would seem kind of obtuse to those that haven't spent time getting lousy t-shirts on Melee island. The controls did not feel very responsive however, and the text flies by very fast. It was also difficult to trigger fights with the top 2 pirates in the scene. Overall though, gameplay gets good marks from me because I appreciate your Monkey Island vibes.

Graphics are wonderful, I love the cartoonish art style. I particularly love the character close up when he's reacting to being told his love has been sent to jail. His expression is so good I can hear him in my head.

No soundtrack or FX I could hear, but I get that it's hard to find time for these things.

Gameboy soul is a 3 out of 5 from me. Felt more PC gamey, but that could just be the influence of the inspiration.

Quirkiness is something this game exudes.

Secondary theme interpretation... I get that you have to become the roughest toughest scalleywag with the sharpest tongue on the seven seas to get the money to spring your love from jail but, the old gold theme is sort of a stretch.

Overall very fun and high marks from me because this is like it was designed in a lab and laser targeted at me specifically. Well done.

I asked him about it. While he transcribed it into GB Studio's music tool, he first composed it with MIDI in Reason to work out the melody.

Gameplay was a fun twist on turn based combat. And I loved that garden configurations changed the balance of things in "battle" with the judges. Very funny and fun. I have absolutely no idea what Mrs Stalk wants but whatever it is, it was not in my honey.

Graphics are a treat. I like the art style, the portraits of the judges are each very unique and well drawn.

No soundtrack or FX, sadly.

Gameboy Soul is here. I could see this being one of those odd quirky budget titles late in Gameboy's life.

Quirkiness is here for sure. I love the off the wall humor and the punny names.

Theme interpretation is a bit of a stretch but I will say it's here a bit.

Overall very fun and funny. Well done.

This was fun! I enjoyed your take on puzzle platforming. It's a genre I often do not enjoy so, that I did enjoy this says something!

The graphics are good. Well drawn, easy to read. Your palette is great, the golden hues really match the vibe of the game and the jam.

Soundtrack is good, I enjoyed it. My only complaint here is that moving through levels quickly meant I really only heard the opening few notes. To hear the whole song I had to slow down for a moment.

Gameboy soul? You got it.

Quirkiness: Your midas touch interpretation feels pretty danged quirky to me!

Theme interpretation: There is gold, it is old. BAM!

The concept is fun, I love running my little shop! The inspection and cleaning minigames are fun. I'd love to see some more in the future. Maybe pouring over other items with magnifying glasses or something. You have a great foundation here.

Graphics get the job done. Not awful, not mind blowing. Could stand to get some juice like animation and variety.

No music or sfx. Totally understandable, we don't have much time. Still, can't give a good score for that part.

Gameboy Soul is here.

Quirkiness in spades. I think you have a real unique idea here and I'd love to see you build on it with even more.

Secondary theme interpretation is pretty good! Items are old, they are gold. Check and check!

Thanks! The music was by my collaborator. He made it in GB Studio's music tools!

Thanks! I tried to make the comedic bits a nice, silly surprise. Thanks for playing

There's an update that fixes the game breaking bugs, can be found at:

I found what you mean. Interesting. Thanks for highlighting the bug!

Hey there! I would really appreciate some rating and feedback on my entry, which is a roguelike take on Minesweeper with a pirate theme. I ran out of time so it's basically a one-level demo with a peek at the further development but, since I plan on continuing to work on this and make it a full release, I would love all the feedback I can get. Good, bad, mid. I will take it all!

Hey there! I appreciate your play and vote. I definitely have plans to retool it post-jam. I fixed a good number of bugs during development but I didn't manage to get them all, it seems. I'm curious if you remember the conditions under which you lost and the game did nothing. On the playtest I did before uploading losing seemed to work fine. I must have missed something.

And yes, while I continue to develop it, I will definitely be on the hunt for a real pixel artist that can do a more casual art style. Your feedback makes so much sense to me!

Thanks again!

Thanks!

Awsome! Quick work, thank you so much. I'll let you know what happens.

Hey there! Nice work. Any idea if this works with 4.2?

Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to play and post the video. Drawing the cute dogs was definitely my favorite part.

Okay, link correctly points to the Itch page. Apologies, I think the markup got messed up as I was copying and pasting various links in a few places for the two platforms I've released on. Good catch, thanks for bringing it to my attention so I could resolve it quickly.

That should not be happening. I'll correct the link.

Hey, everyone! Today I'm proud to release my latest Pico-8 game, Puzzle Puppies. A casual and cute match 3 game, but it's not like most others. No grid swapping, no cascading combos. Move dogs into a tray, match 3, and pray you don't run out of space on your tray before you do. Dog houses, sleeping pups, and pound kennels complicate. Oh, and did I mention dog launching tubes? Yeah, there's those too. I'm really happy with how my pixel art skills are improving, the dogs came out pretty cute if I say so myself! Feel free to check it out if you like, and let me know if you have any feedback or suggestions.

This is my first completed game that wasn't for a jam, so I'm pretty proud of myself for passing the finish line without a hard deadline!

Thank you! I appreciate you checking it out.

I'm curious, did you feel like the third boss was unbalanced or unfair?

Will do!

Update published:

Changelog:
Version 1.02

Added directional indicators on first boss

Better centered other boss names

Thanks! Yeah, I’m trying to refine the controls a bit. I’ll have an update at some point with some other control options.

Thanks for playing and commenting!

Thank you, I appreciate you saying that . And thanks for playing!

Curious! Thanks for reporting that, I’ll look into it. And, thanks for giving it a go!

Cool. This should be fun, thanks.

Hey there!  Excited to jam with you all. Is there any particular theme or are we just busting out whatever GBC game we feel like making?

It’s Baltro-like, but instead of just playing Poker hands, you’re also making Solitaire columns first. I think it’s starting to click for me
