fun game and idea, i like the cinematic scene

I loved this entry, one of my favorites in the jam, I would just point that the trigger area was not very intuitive to assign, at first I thought I should press the key when the notes where inside the bubble shield, later I noticed the white dot.
Also some stuttering when playing for the first time, I have those in my game too and I'm yet to fix them but I think it's related to particles loading on web exports, maybe a solution is to emit them while the scene is loading, I'll test some things when the jam is over.

Congrats on your entry!!!

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed the game.  I think the lag is from shaders being compiled (which would make particles appear to lag out the game on first draw.)

Damn what a pretty game, good job!

Thanks!

Really nice, love the presentation with the models and the voice acting and the freakin' black hole! The timing on the notes was a bit iffy and I couldn't really tell when to press anything so I didn't beat it but still good work!

Developer

Thanks for playing! If you decide to come back and try for the ending cutscene, the mid-point of the timing is when the note crosses over the white dot in front of you.  I did notice a couple times that lagging out when the game I started (I keep forgetting that's a thing in web builds) can mess up the synchro, but refreshing fixed that for me.

Such a banger!!! Really enjoyed the tension and the different patterns getting a bit harder / faster as time goes on. I had maybe like 1 or 2 hits on my health bar and I was on the last skull. Genuinely felt so good to beat it like that. Awesome music and concept, even the cut scenes were pretty solid. Really great job :)

Developer

Thank you for playing!  Just barely clearing the last round is the best feeling 😁

I actually have an even harder move-list I wanted to include as a hard mode, new game + sort of mode but ran out of time :(

Awesome game! The theme is set up really well through the intro, visuals, and music. Even though I'm not that great at it, it feels super satisfying to play!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

This is a great game. Had a lot of fun with it. I wanted to give up after the wizard destroyed my ass for the first time but I persevered.

One note I have is it would've been nice to make the area of contact for the arrows a bit clearer. Like I think it's the outer layer of the player's defense orb thing but I wasn't sure.

PS: I also liked the setting, pretty cool.

Developer

Thank you for playing! The sweet spot is where the white dot is, which is just outside the radius of the shield. I originally had the shield line up with the sweet spot, more or less, but perspective made it a little unclear when to press a direction, and plus I liked the camera angle too much to change it 😁

Very cool idea and gameplay, the visuals and setting are also very fitting. One minor issue is where you must hit the beats as while i did realize it, it was not as clear and it can trip you off a bit (though this is a design choice which adds difficulty so i can see why it is that way) .

Also maybe spacing out the notes visually a bit more? (This could also be lag) as some notes were played earlier than they were expected. Other than that very cool submission for your first gwj!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I was really indecisive about the note timing because I was worried making it too easy 😅

The intended timing is supposed to be when the note crosses over the white dot in front of the player.  Of course, that means you need to find how much before that you need to press to actually hit that spot...

I loved this game! I only had two issues. The browser version seems to lag badly on the first round, forcing you to lose, and then becoming less laggy. Otherwise, in the final phase some notes were automatically being hit on my healthbar right away without any input.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Getting auto-hit is probably also due to some lag. All the gameplay is synced to the music, which as it turns out can play faster than the game loop. I am learning that a  browser-based rhythm game requires a lot of testing 😅

Very fun idea! Unfortunately, for some reason, the game really struggled in my browser, and I wasn't really able to play it much without stuttering/audio sounding weird. But when it worked, it was pretty neat to play. A great solo submission!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for playing! One of my friends had this issue too... In their case, playing in an incognito window worked. They thought it might have been their browser extensions but we never figured it out for sure.

This was super cool! You did an amazing job with the environment and animations. The black hole pulsing with the beat was a nice touch as well. I was a little confused where to hit the notes (visually) at first but I eventually figured it out. Only other thing is when you restart, the restart music continues to play in its entirety. Otherwise, a great submission, nicely done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! Since I didn't do the character models I tried to go as hard as I could on the environment and cutscenes :D

Ahhh I thought I fixed the restart music ;o;

Don't worry about it too much, it isn't a game breaker!

Great job on the 3d models! Love the art style.

Developer

I used KayKit models for this game! Be sure to check out https://kaylousberg.itch.io he puts up free models for characters and environments that are great for getting things together fast
