How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Old man mines gold, in the form of golden music notes. At least, thats how he sees them.

im happy we also got a rythm game in the jam! :D
very well made for your first jam game wow!
I had a lot of fun, and the music hits the vibe just right!

Thanks so much, after hearing the song for the trillionth time I was starting to question whether it was ok lol. Thanks again :)

yes, thats a phenomenon i encounter all the time too, with all that i create x.x this is why i like game jams so much, because then you cant work on something for eternity, since there is a deadline! :) and then you realize we are all in the same boat... everyone is uncertain, everyone is vulnerable, everyone is trying something here in the jam... and thats so beautiful on its own, to be a part of that

For those who are confused as to how to hit the notes: You have to hit space when the notes are in the golden zone (and also in the same lane as your character). Could definitely have been explained better.

Fun little entry! For your first, the music is pretty good. The art is charming aswell. (My only complain would be the font, which I assume is the default one.)

Developer

Thank you! Yes I definitely learned in this game jam not to skip out on explaining the mechanics lol. Also the font was sadly a rushed job, I had it there and used it at the start menu but messed up the explainer... Oh well, I've learned so much and am super grateful for the feedback and the kind words. Cheers :)

After the first run, I got 0 points even though I was always on the right spot with the champ. I realized I had to do something more than just be on time in the right lane... You should explain that as well, rather than just telling players to hit W and S :D
But great work, I enjoyed it on my second run!

Developer

Thank you! I'm so glad you stuck with it and gave it a second shot, definitely great feedback :)

I love rhythm games! So this was a treat! The game was fun and the soundtrack hit well for a rhythm game! Good work!

Thanks so much for the kind words, I had a lot of fun making it :)

Genuinely a very good first project made in a very short amount of time! I would suggest tying the notes to one of the instruments. Your kick is strong in the mix, which helps keep the beat in a rhythm game, but I never felt like I was moving up or down for any reason. It would be a lot more satisfying to move up or down to follow the melody.

Thank you so much! Yes totally agree, I must admit I tried that but couldn't get the timing right so settled on every snare instead, and to get the up and down movements I was rushing to get it done so had to settle for what it is. Appreciate the feedback, this is a cool community I stumbled upon

Very nice for your first project, unfortunatly I didnt know how to click for the minigame :sob

Developer

Thanks! Yeah I should have put more effort into the "how to play" section, thanks for the feedabck :)

Had tons of fun. Music was fun to listen to, and swinging to the beat was very enjoyable. ^~^

Really needs fullscreen! (should be an option when editing the game on Itch)  Overall, very fun idea!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah I tried full screen but it revealed a lot of my shoddy sprite cuts on the edges outside of the gameboy ratio, so had to remove it. I did double the aspect ratio instead though so at least you can see it now without squinting lol. Thanks again :)
