Excellent game! I loved the atmosphere the graphics and music created. There was a lot of polish in the movement and game feel, although I did get stuck on the edges of slopes several times. The game also seemed to freeze up on the "GET OUT" screen after I collected the ring.

How does your game meet GBJam's theme
You play as a cave explorer trying to find an old golden artifact. You must enter the cave, steal as much gold as possible, take the golden artifact and escape before the cave collapses!

Nice game! The movement and art felt quite polished, though I did occasionally find myself getting stuck on bits of the environment, and wishing I could shoot upward (though I guess that’s part of the challenge). It took a few tries for me to finish it, but I think it’s good since it means the game isn’t too easy or too hard.
I played the game on stream today (recording here) in case you’re interested in watching a playthrough of your game. Good job!
Thank you so much for reviewing the game and posting a video of it! It was really interesting seeing your playthrough as the one thing I wish I did more of during the project's development was playtesting.
Yes there are some issues with slope collisions. I didn't think about shooting upwards, that could be a good addition. I'm glad you reached the end. I've received some feedback on maybe extending the timer, as I think it's very difficult to beat first try, which I need to fix.
All in all, glad you enjoyed the game! Thank you also for the constructive feedback :)
Incredible work. Really fun to play. Creative use of the color palette restriction, and sweet sounds!
Awesome game! I really enjoyed the level layout and the combat felt solid. This is a really fun spin on Metroid escape sequences. The presentation and feel are overall very awesome.
The one thing I'd note is, the dithering in the underground is a bit hard on my eyes, especially when the screen is shaking.
Seriously awesome stuff.
Np at all! If level design is new to you you did a knockout job of it, as it's quite involving. I'm impressed.
Regarding the dithering, if you're taking suggestions I'd personally do away with it in favour of a palette order inversion when above ground vs when underground so that every sprite looks like it's being strongly shaded by the sun. It's an old trick that still looks quite clean, though I don't know how it'd work with 3 + 1 highlight colour vs 4 shades of the same colour.
Thank you for allowing to change palette, even I stayed on original :) Game feel is awesome, Great game!
Gameplay feels amazing!
It keeps you glued to the screen and is really very challenging!
Very fun solid game! Really nailed making defeating the cave creatures feel satisfying with great SFX. I wasn't ever able to make it too far as I am pretty bad at platformers haha, but it the game definitely made want to keep trying! The way the lil guys sprite looks like he is shimmying around brings me a great amount of joy.
Great game, the feel, the look, the music and sfx. Very cleanly done, and it really gave the feel of a retro game.
To not repeat what other's have said, I will say that the volume was really loud though, I really needed some way of adjusting the volume.
Also when the core activated on browser for me, it stalled showing the get out screen for about 4-5 bars of the music before it almost stalled in the browser before continuing. Not entirely sure what it might have been causing it to process so much, but it's just a heads up!
overall, loved it.
Really solid entry. Visuals and gameplay really sync, great palette and designs all around honestly.
Control wise I found it a bit fiddly, but that didn't super affect my playing experience. It mostly hurt in tight spots where I had to maneouver around an enemy.
Love the race back up scenario too! I think a little bit of mechanical progression could help to know the cave better and consequently have a better grasp of where to run towards when escaping.
Gotta be proud, this one's a banger.
Nice art as well as music, overall a very polished look and feel. Noticed the slopes too like another reviewer, sometimes even made me stick to walls.
Really liked that you went with an 8x8 tileset. Also enjoyed the colour combo(s).
The art and music are super good! The little character could sometimes get caught up on slopes but everything else felt so solid. Killing enemies felt very satisfying. Great jam submission!
I had a blast with this game! The art is really impressive, and the music is a banger!! Super cool game guys!
