How does your game meet GBJam's theme
This is a pirate-themed bullet heaven game, drenched in gold. I envisioned a fictional arcade competitor to the MS-DOS classic "Sid Meier's Pirates!"

amazing game found!!!
One of the nicest ideas i've seen in the jam so far, and super nicely implemented!
This has surprising gameplay depth, and you get better and better at the controls with using the slingshot mechanic!
I just think that the difficulty spiked too much at "NORD". I was managing to clear the other levels with only 1 death, but at NORD my ship was sinking all the time. I would appreciate more Healing-Islands or that the self healing is quicker. Or maybe just remove bounce-damage on the islands, it seems a bit harsh, considering people are slinghotting themselves all over the place and strong winds pushing the boat...
Other than that it really hooked me for much longer than any jam entry yet!
Really fun and satisfying gameplay once you get the anchor mechanic going! Visually clean and satisfying, especially considering the zoomed out look.
Only minor feedback is that it would have been nice for the pickups to be separated from the anchor key.
Great stuff and satisfying arcade feel. One of my favourites from the jam!
Thanks Knix! Glad you enjoyed it :)
The idea itself is really cool, and probably for those who can master it the anchor slingshot is super fun, sadly my brain could not really get used to either the controls os the slingshot, so barely used it and broadside fired at everything. Upgrades were interesting and ship vareity was nice!
While the overall graphics representation is neat, I do feel like that the bullet particles would quickly ran out a gb from drawing calls, that said here it is no issue.
Sadly no music, sounds effects were okay!
overall a cool idea, nice implementation!
On second start I do hear the menu music, not ingame though, not sure what happened there
Ahh, I missed your Stream because I was at work! I'll be sure to check it out when it hits YouTube. Glad to hear that just broadsiding everything worked out well enough for you. Very much the pirate approach. :)
Fun game! I enjoyed the slingshotting mechanic a lot. I found myself accidentally buying upgrades while attacking ships though, and I had trouble gauging how far the mechanic actually shielded you for.
The shore break on the islands shows about how far the buying will trigger. You're probably right about the shielding feedback, I think players would benefit from some increased affordance offered there. Thanks for checking it out!
This was really good! I got all the way through to the end, I like the retro rendition of wellerman. I don't think I ever got the exact hang of the sling shot, but that didn't matter too much. Very good incremental game it felt satisfying to ram through hordes later in the levels. I'd appreciate it if you gave us a rating as well. Very good entry!
Hey thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed the whole high seas adventure, I personally think its picks up nicely around halfway through the game when it starts getting a little crazy out on the water - but I didn't want to overwhelm new players all at once. I appreciate your kind sentiments!
A really twist for a game. I was digging the style and mechanics.
I really like how simple the mechanics are and the super clean art-style for it. I would have loved a banger chiptune music for it. Controls are a bit hard to handle but that's me having skill-issues.
Thank you! Very kind. Glad you enjoyed playing :)
Very interesting, kept me playing for a while!
Only gripe is that buying things also anchors you.
Thanks, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. How far did you get?
Actually the whole reason I started implementing anchoring was so that you could stop at islands to buy upgrades. Only while messing with how to raise the anchor did I stumble across the slingshot mechanic, thought it had the potential to be fun, and just rolled with it.
Makes really fun, I love your idea and concept! Missing background music. Also a sound for the anchor dash would improve it alot!!!
Thank you!! Your appreciation warms my cold dead heart. I ended up leaving the music just on the title and menus because I felt the soundscape was already very full with sfx, especially later when things ramp up. There is an anchor dash sfx but I think you're right, it could be much improved. Thanks for checking out the game
RAMMING SPEED! Very rarely do you see games where you -want- to ram your vehicle into another. Great work!
Thanks Seraph, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, I was messing with the idea of "kedging" the anchor, where the boat is pulled towards the anchor, kinda stumbled on this mechanic and just rolled with it. Should I have called the game "Kedgelord"? No. No, I probably should not.
X3 I'm a sucker for silly names, so I feel like I would've appreciated it at least. ^^
The movement is really interesting, the hitboxes felt a bit off at times but the anchor slingshot mechanics are really fun to play arround with. The graphics are also really neat, cool game!
Thank you for playing! Yeah, I had this anchor idea and just really went for it! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
the game is really fun, i like in particular the movement of the ship. Really good!!
Thanks for playing Tizio! Glad you enjoyed it. Next ship game, I should do something with commanding crew like you had in yours :)
Slingshot peww! The tutorial felt like it both helped and hindered game understanding. You did a great job finding the balance between awkward ship sailing feel and comfortable motion in such a short time. I didn't hear any music during my playthrough but did get sound effects
Yes, thank you, I've been trying to figure out how to translate sailing into satisfying game mechanics for awhile now, so I'm glad that paid off for you. I'd love it if you could expand on what "helped and hindered" in the tutorial, I'm making a special effort lately to improve my tutorialization, so I'd really be interested to know what worked and what didn't for you in some more detail.
