How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Douglas had his beloved Old Gold whisky recipe stolen, and it's the player's job to get it back. "Old Gold" here is the name of the whisky, but also represents a very valuable thing for Douglas.

Pokemon but with a drink battle. This game is quirky at the least. the one thing I could find where all the clues for opening the door.

Developer

Thanks for playing! 😁

Really loved this quirky game! It was quite challenging aswell which was nice! I used the wasd-jk controls but when i got to the combination lock the ui would only let me use arrow keys. Otherwise really well made

Developer

Thanks for playing! I totally forgot to add WASD to that part, sorry 🙁

The gameplay kept me on edge! I also really liked the story. I wish that there were more clues because I kind of had to brute-force the combination lock. If there is anything I would improve, it would be giving the circle thingies a tell in the brain dodge mini-game so you can know how to dodge them.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, we forgot a clue to narrow the code down, and some kind of tell for the dodging game would be nice 😁 I'm glad you liked it!

i really enjoyed the gameplay , i just find some issues with the 'z' key in the quick event , but it pretty good

Developer

Hey! thanks for playing! Yeah, Z key is buggy... we put a warning on the page, but I'm aware people usually ignore it (I do, at least :P). I hope you had fun anyways!

This game is good. I have a hard time figuring out what does the sign mean by "The number is greater!", I am not sure if I suppose to put the "1st plus 2nd equals 3rd" like Greater than 3 in the safe?

Developer(+1)

hey, so the clues are: "The next number is always greater", which means 4th > 3rd > 2nd > 1st. Then, "1st plus 2nd equals 3rd", and "The last number is six". I forgot to add one more clue :') so there are 3 combinations that match this, I think, but only one of them is correct...

Man, what a hidden gem we have in here!

The plot and the gameplay are so soooo creative, really enjoyed playing it!

I find the last fight a little too hard: the brain dodge mini-game for this one seems a little unfair. But after some tries, I managed to beat it!

Really nice game. Congrats!!!

Obrigado, João! We tried our best, but I'm sure there's some room for balancing, specially in the dodging minigames... I'm glad you liked it!

The game kept breaking for me as soon as I started the first battle so couldn't really give it a proper go but the concept around alcohol sounds interesting!

Developer(+1)

Hey, sorry to hear that 🙁 maybe try a different browser? Anyways, thanks for letting us know, I will try to figure it out!

Managed to get it to work on firefox. Love the battle system, you totally made the undertale dodge mechanic fit perfectly into your drinking theme! I'm not sure I ever managed to get the timing right when yelling but as a concept that fits very well into the battles as well. The effects of being drunk are cool too and the "hick" when walking is really fun and it adds a new layer of depth when traversing the level with the holes in the floor. Awesome job, really creative!

Thank you so much for giving another try! I'm glad you liked it!

Very well made game!

I really enjoyed the small mini puzzles scattered throughout, and the drinking game was fun. Great idea with the "drunk visual filter".

The music fits, and the music transitions work well. The length of the game was also good.
Great art direction too.

Good job to everyone!

Hey! Thanks for playing and reviewing it! I'm glad you liked it 😁

This is a super fun game; I liked the intoxication mechanic — the way you hiccup and everything swims before your eyes — it really made me laugh!! It seemed to me that the combat and puzzles with the lever might be inspired by Undertale. The final boss is quite challenging. The graphics and music are top‑notch and perfectly complement everything that’s happening. But, in my opinion, the theme isn’t explored enough — the interpretation is too superficial.

Developer(+1)

Hey! Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm glad you liked it. The main inspiration was the pokemon gyms, but the battle system was totally based on undertale. About the theme, we interpreted "old gold" as aged whisky (which is gold colored), but sure, we could have gone deeper on that 😁

The drunk mechanics are so funny. Blurry vision affecting the the battles and the hicks knocking me into holes. The old Scottish/Irish bloke as the main character fits perfectly too. Great concept and really fun to play.

Thank you so much for the feedback! 😁😁

Loved the battle concept.

a pretty pleasant game all around.  Really liked the graphics.  The game did feel kind of snowbally once you started getting hit, but I also think thats the point and matches actual alcohol.

Developer (1 edit)

Hey! Thank you so much for reviewing our game! I do think there's some room for balance, but yeah, it does look like the real alcohol experience right now 🍺 🤣

This was an absolute pleasure to play! Reminded me of raiding the evil team's hideout in classic Pokemon games... but with booze :') Feel's like you thought of everything - gameplay, art style and audio are all great. 10/10

Developer

Thanks for reviewing our game! Yeah, it was heavily inspired in these pokemon raids and game feel 😁

I like the gameplay being similar to undertale and FNF as if they were made in gameboy. Loved it. One of my favorite entries for sure.

I liked the hiccup mechanic that launches you through the holes!

Thanks!!

Damn! What a great game! It really feels like something from 1995. The music is really good, the aesthetic is amazing, and the combat gameplay is very diverse. I really liked it!

I really enjoyed the game! You can feel the soul of Game Boy titles right from the very first seconds. Although the interpretation of the theme is quite simple, the gameplay is very engaging; I even struggled a bit with the final boss—his attacks were incredibly unpredictable. Also, I’m not sure why, but during the QTE sequence (where the character is drinking), the game didn't seem to register my 'Z' key press when using the Z/X layout.

The visual style was a real highlight, too—especially the effect where everything on the screen goes wavy.

All in all, the game deserves high marks.

Developer(+1)

Hey! Thank you so much for reviewing our game! I've just checked it here and there's a bug with the Z key - it's being registered as both A and B, we let this one pass :(

I'm glad you liked it!
