Fun game! I thought I was okay at bullet hells but couldn’t make it past the water phase, so maybe not :). I wish the checkpoints were closer together and/or the dash had I-frames. It felt pretty tough to use even on the second level given the enemy density and their patterns – The curving patterns are fun, but take a lot of space and are much harder to avoid that what I’m used to. I like the combination of kinds of obstacles from different directions.
Great work, cute sprites and fitting music.
Yeah sorry, I balanced the game pretty bad and that's my fault frankly :(
STARFISH!!
I wasn’t sure how much I was going to get into this, but I was fully engrossed by the second stage. Those fireballs kept me on my toes.
And then I met the Starfish…
Visually the bird is a little shy of charm. It feels just a little too much like a prop or random shape I am controlling. It didn’t really sell me on the bird fantasy.
But I thought the fireballs, falling spikes, backgrounds, starfish and sea creatures all looked fantastic.
What really sold me on this was the gameplay. The controller felt pretty tight which made it possible for me to survive as long as I did. But the spawn logic never felt like it was handicapped for a bullet hell lightweight like myself.
Really solid game overall.
I am sorry. I am decent at bullet hells so I have a bad tenancy to make the games extra tough as they feel fine to me. It's a bad habit and this jam has highlighted that for me. Glad I learned something from this jam :)
A BIRD’S JOURNEY THROUGH A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE NIGHTMARE! 🐦💥🌅
A bird-based bullet hell is such an unexpected way to interpret The Long Way Home, and honestly, it works! I love how the beautiful backgrounds contrast with the pixel-art bird, while the different enemy types and attack patterns keep every section feeling fresh. And the music seems to be doing some serious work here multiple players mentioned getting caught up in the soundtrack even while fighting for their lives! 😂🎶
The one thing I’d really encourage you to revisit is the difficulty curve. The challenge sounds exciting, but if players get stuck at the starfish section, they might miss the later levels you worked so hard to create. A few extra lives, gentler early encounters, or an optional difficulty setting could help more people experience the full migration without losing that bullet-hell intensity.
DON’T LET THAT LITTLE BIRD GIVE UP! 🐦💛 The variety, atmosphere, and personality people are describing make this sound like a memorable jam entry. I hope plenty more players manage to survive the journey and see what awaits at the end! 🏆✨
I really liked the levels, the animations, and the obstacles, as well as the bird underwater and stuff like that haha , it's a great game :D
Cool game, a bit difficult for me. I gave up at the exploding triangles with ~70 deaths. Still, I enjoyed playing it!
The bird feels really good to control. The movement and dashing are both very responsive and easy to handle! I also really like the smooth transitions.
Really beautiful game! At some point it even gave me some Undertale vibes. I also really love the idea behind the interpretation, especially how you used bird migration as an excuse for the story.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I could hear different bird sounds in the music. If that was intentional, that’s some really clever sound design and a detail I really appreciated.
Really nice work, keep it up bro! :)
Thank you very much! There were some light bird chirping/flapping in the background, in addition to ambient sounds depending on the area you are in, like having lava bubbling in the fire zone, and city noises in the dark city.
I had a lot of fun playing your game! It reminded me of playing a Touhou Project game! I could really tell how much effort you put into the details, especially with the different mechanics and gimmicks that fit the theme of each stage.
The only downside was that some patterns felt impossible to dodge, and the lightning pattern at the end was so fast that I sometimes died before I even had a chance to react.
But aside from those issues, I think you did a really great job making this game!
Thank you! Balancing is major issue that people have said about the game, and the patterns have randomization which is probably why it sometimes feels impossible. Never the less I am happy you had a good time with it!

Ok, I am joking, but seriously man I suffered so much with this game.
You know, it's Friday night, I bought apple cider, my girlfriend wanted us to watch StarTrek, but I wanted to play some games from the jam, so we agreed we play one little game and then watch the movie... But I ended playing for too long... At first I even really liked the song, but then it started killing me like every other thing in this game. In the end I told myself that I at least have to finish the level I've been stuck on for so long.. It was synthwave discoball level, so that's how far I got. I guess it means I didn't migrate succesfully and froze to death somewhere in the synthwave dimension...
I am so sorry
😂It's ok man. Your game was great 🔥
Isn't it the Celeste bird? The game is super fun and addictive. The effects look beautiful, and I like the diversity in obstacles and environments. So I feel like the bird sprite is a bit out of place, and I think you should specify that you used downloaded assets and give credit to the author. Other than that it's very challenging at the end! The very last part took me a while and I finished in 28 deaths :)
Not the Celeste bird but I did get it from a pack. I will have to add credit to it.
Edit: Nvm I looked it up and it does seem to be a remake of the celeste bird, mb I didn't know :P

This gets pretty crazy really fast 😭 I like that every area changes the obstacle patterns though. It stops the game from feeling like youre just dodging the same thing again and again.
The difficulty is probably the main thing Id change. Some of the later sections get REALLY hard and I think a lot of people might never see the second half because of that. Maybe giving the bird 2 or 3 hits before dying or adding an easier mode would help a lot. You could still keep the current difficulty for people who want the challenge.
The dash could also be a bit easier to use. Id make it go instantly in the direction youre holding instead of making it feel like another thing you have to think about while the screen is already full of projectiles.
Visually I really like the backgrounds. The only thing is the pixel bird and some of the smoother backgrounds/effects feel a little different from each other. Maybe making the effects more pixelated too or giving everything a more similar style would make it feel more consistent.
Music is probably my favorite part though. It fits the chaos really well and makes retrying much less annoying 😂
Really good game and the different patterns are easily the strongest part for me. Id mostly work on making the difficulty curve a little nicer so more people can actually see everything you made.
If you have some time please check out my game too! Id really appreciate a rating and some feedback :)
I'll check out your game soon! I made the backgrounds ad obstacles contrast each other because I didn't want it to impede with the gameplay too much. The game is didfixult enough as is XD
Pretty cool and challenging game! Appreciate the different pattern and ideas. Great job!
Very good game, to be honest i love that is that hard, make the game challenge and want to try it once and once again.
Very good with the art and the sounds, very well implemented.
The mechanics in each place are very good, differents events and interactions with different patterns of obstacles.
very solid entry, well done.
I couldn't pass the flurry of starfishes in the sea, so I can't review the whole thing. From what I've seen I like the look and feel of the game, the mix of vectorial background with the pixel art birds works for me. I also liked the enemy variety and the amount of different patterns.
Very fun ! the background are beautiful and the music too! It was difficult but with the nice music it was fun to try and try again . Good job one of the best game i played so far in the jam !
This is probably my favourite game I've played so far. I had so much fun! There was such a good variety of different obstacles that made each level feel new and fun, combined with the different backgrounds making them all visually unique. The sound design and music was also very fitting. My only critique is that I feel the pixel art contrasts a bit too much with the backgrounds and higher resolution effects, But overall an amazing game :D
Thank you very much! The contrasting art was intentional as I had problems in my previous bullet hell type games with projectiles blending in with the backgrounds, and I didn’t want it to happen again, and was willing to sacrifice some visual consistency for a better gameplay experience.
That's totally understandable! I didn't have any problems with the gameplay experience so I guess it was a good choice :)
beautiful visuals and really good use of the theme. Nice job!
Thank You!
I reached HALF! Bird-based bullet hell was NOT on my list in this jam.
The gameplay was solid, hell it was REALLY good, but also very difficult. I liked it, but I wish I could see the rest of the game :)
The art was cool, especially the background. The music was a total banger. I would make it further in the game if I wasn't fist-pumping all the time!
Over all- this is a simple, but really polished game. The obstacles are difficult in an interesting way and even though it's too difficult for me, it seems difficult in a fair way. Good job!
I fear I have made the game too difficult mb. I wanted to make each individual section pretty hard, as they don’t last too long each (45 seconds specifically). I didn’t realize how tough the game would be, as I was able to complete the whole thing with only a handful of deaths. I need to work on my game balance skills, as the latter half of the game, is especially cool in my opinion, and I fear people won’t ever really see it :(
My advice- with jam games make it easier than you would normally. When developing and testing you naturally get good at your own game. What is "fair difficulty" for you is "dark souls" for others. Especially when the genre you are making is not their cup of tea.
Really beautiful looking backgrounds and fun chatotic gameplay! Pretty straightforward mechanics, so was easy to pickup, but the difficulty ramped up quite a bit later on and turned into a bullet hell haha! Would have liked it if there were a few 'lives' when you got hit.. I couldnt get past the fish level! I think gameplay wise, the dodging was fun, but i didnt really use the dash often as it felt a bit awkward to use - you had to have pressed some key and then it would dash in that direction. The variation in the obstacles and their movement patterns were quite interesting though and the progression was good. Music fit the gameplay well. Overall well done on this, inspite of having less time, it feels like a polished game :)
I really liked the music! I suck at bullet hell haha
