great work to have such an extensive level with varied obstacles! cool little platformer, only thing would be to improve the accuracy of the trajectory line as it was way off

Submitted

A great platformer with excellent physics-based mechanics. I’d say this is impressive for just 11 hours of work. Congratulations on that!

One thing I really liked is that, even though the core gameplay loop is simple, the obstacles and level design make the gameplay varied and challenging enough to keep players engaged until the very end.

Although I felt that the trajectory indicated by the arrow could have been a bit more accurate (which sometimes led to some frustration), I’d say it’s polished enough to let players enjoy the game without too much difficulty.

One thing that would undoubtedly add a lot to the scenery and immersion is a parallax effect in the background. This kind of effect usually adds a lot of visual appeal, and in your game, which is set on a beach, it would be a great way to make the visuals even more beautiful.

The game is easy to understand and very straightforward to play, which makes it a great fit for game jams, where people are often looking for something they can pick up and enjoy quickly.

Congratulations on the project, and best of luck in the jam!

Great game! I really enjoyed it. My only feedback would be to improve the art design a bit :)))))

We’re in the final hours of the jam, so if you have some time, feel free to vote for my game too and let me know what you think! :)

Thanks for playing! Yeah i need to work on the cohesion of the art to make it work better together !

I felt for the fish. Especially because I’m bad at these kind of games and couldn’t help it get home fast enough. But that was quite addictive. Solid work.

a really cool game idea

the core game is simple, and its fun!

one thing i like to note is the jump indicator, i tells me where to land, but feels like i missed a lot when i jumped

other than that it is a fun game

Developer

Thanks for playing ! yeah i dont know why but the indicator is off , i should have just place a arrow to see it . :)

Lots of fun! Cool idea for a ‘action-golf-platformer:)’ The movement felt good and the platforming had a nice difficulty ramp. I was initially frustrated by the length between checkpoints in some sections near the middle, but pushed through. I liked the sound effect but the music wasn’t as fitting. Something fun to fit the graphics might work really well. I also found the indicator didn’t match the true arc of the jump – maybe just having a directional bar instead of an arc would work – you learn jump by feel anyway.

Great entry!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Yeah the arc should have just been a straight line .

For the music i could see what you mean something more cartony would have work better !

Such a nice and polished game! :D

THIS FISH IS FLOPPING ITS WAY TO FREEDOM! 🐟💦😂

I love the creative idea behind Flip-A-Fish! Turning a simple journey home into a challenging adventure where you have to flip and flop your way back to water is such a fun interpretation of the theme. The movement mechanic feels unique, and the cheerful visuals and music give the game plenty of charm! 🎮✨

One improvement would be making the trajectory indicator more accurate and adding a few more checkpoints to reduce frustration. Some extra landing animations and water splashes would also make every successful flop feel even more satisfying! 🌊

GREAT JOB, FISH RESCUER! 🏆🐟 Making such a fun physics-based game in just 11 hours is impressive. May this little fish finally find its way home without drying out! 😂💙

Thanks for playing ! for the arc i sould have jsut made a straight line ! yeah i would i love to playtest more but with 2 little kid you take the time you have , Just happy to have finish it !

I don’t know about that. That fish was a long way from the water.

That being said, this was a lot of fun to play. Very cool flipping mechanic. The visuals delivered a vibe and the audio supported that, though I don’t remember hearing any environmental effects, which could help with immersion.

Solid presentation. Great submission!

Thanks for the review! Yeah, I did add a beach background sound, but I made it very low. I should have put it more in the foreground!

Gameplay / Fun / Engagement: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

 Art Style / Visuals: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Audio / Sound Design: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Theme: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was actually pretty fun. The whole idea of throwing the fish around and trying to get back to water before drying out works really well. It also takes a little bit of practice which I like because you actually start getting better after a few tries.

The biggest thing Id fix is the trajectory line. Right now it looks like its showing exactly where the fish will go but it really isnt accurate enough. That makes some deaths feel like the game lied to me instead of me making a bad jump 😭 I think there are two good ways to fix it. Either make the arc match the real physics perfectly or remove the arc completely and just show a simple direction + power arrow. A little dot where the fish is expected to land could work too.

I would also make checkpoints a bit more forgiving. Some sections are quite hard and repeating a long part after one mistake can get annoying fast. Making more water pools act as checkpoints would keep the difficulty but remove some of the frustration.

Visually I like it. 4/5 from me. I think the fish could use more animation though. Some squash when landing. A little stretch when launching. Bigger splash particles when you reach water. Maybe a tiny screen shake on a hard impact. Stuff like that would make every flop feel MUCH better without changing the actual gameplay.

Another thing Id improve is feedback when youre about to dry out. Maybe the fish could slowly change color or the screen could get slightly warmer instead of only relying on the meter. A small warning sound near the end would help too. That would make it easier to understand the danger without constantly looking at the UI.

For the harder obstacles Id also check the hitboxes. If something looks like I barely avoided it but I still die then it starts feeling unfair. Making the fish collision slightly smaller than the sprite could actually make those close calls feel really satisfying.

And Id add a quick restart button. In this kind of game you die a lot so restarting should be almost instant. Something like R to restart from the last checkpoint would make trying difficult parts way less annoying.

Theme is definitely 5/5 for me though. A fish literally flopping its way home while slowly drying out is simple but it fits the theme REALLY well 😂

Good game and honestly the main mechanic is already fun. I think better trajectory feedback + smoother checkpoints + more animation would improve it a lot.

If you have some time please check out my game too! Id really appreciate a rating and some feedback :)

Thanks for playing my game ! Agree with all that you said! it need polisigh on many aspect but wall glab to have finish it !

Fishy Rage Game

Gameplay wise this could have been phenomenal but has a very glaring weaknesses. The main ones come down to the fact that the trajectory indicator does not match where you will travel. Another annoyance is the hitboxes seem way too big, and it caused the game to feel frustrating but not because of my mistakes, but because the game screwed me over. The game is still pretty fun all things considered though.

Visually the game looked pretty good. There were some inconsistencies with the style, like the assets and the background, but overall the game looks pretty solid!

Music was top notch and really fits the game! Audio was pretty good all things considered and fit in the game well.

I really liked this theme interpretation a lot. The idea was easy to understand, and executed very well! No complaints!

Overall very good game, however has many frustrating features that damage the experience a good bit.

Developer

Thanks for the review ! Yeah like you sais It miss a little bit of polish in the enemy area!

Fun platformer game, but quite challenging! The jump arc was quite confusing and I would probably be better to use a simple arrow instead (or make the arc accurate). Also some part where quite long without checkpoints so maybe putting a checkpoint in all the puddles would be a bit less frustrating. Keep in mind if the difficulty feels good for you, it's probably too hard for other people! But overall very nice game. Good work!

Developer

Thank! yeah i just should ahve gone with a small line for the arc. Yeah i should have needed a little more testing for other people for the difficulty but sadly didnt have time . Thanks for playing !

Developer

Thanks for playign it ! weird to see other poeple play my game ! thanks for the feedback and yeah when your on the wall and boucing back is frustating i see it !

This game was really fun to play through! :D
The movement mechanic is super unique and very intuitive! I found that the guideline when moving was a bit inaccurate, but once I accounted for that I managed to start making it through the world without too much issue.
The challenges felt very balanced! I was usually making it to the next water pool just before I was about to run out again, a very satisfying feeling to succeed with!
Finished the game in just under 8 minutes, a very fun time :DD

Developer

Thank ! you almost beat my record !

I love the ambient sound when I open the game. It immediately makes the game feel cheerful and fun! The water refill mechanic is nice too, it adds some challenge while giving really satisfying feedback. It’s charming~

Developer

Thank you for playing ! At least it cheerful if you rage at it XD

I enjoyed it! The physics feel good, and that’s what matters most in a game like this. Extra respect for creating the visuals yourselves. Good work!

Developer

Yeah i try to make it fun without being to complicated!

It was really interesting, to be honest, and above all, challenging. I was actually on the verge of smashing my computer because I had to go back to my previous checkpoint lololololol. Great game.

We'd love it if you could give our game a try too and give us some feedback. Thanks <3

Developer

Thank for playing ! i try to keep it a little more difficult but never impossible !

I finished your game, and it took me almost 15 minutes and 500 flops!

Needless to say- the gameplay was engaging. I was on a verge of ragequit a couple of times. The game felt challenging, but fair, so I kept trying. Every time, it was obvious what I was doing wrong, so it was never about figuring out what the game wanted from me.

For this reason I think your game does the theme especially well. Yeah, like many games it's about something returning home, but because your game was pretty challenging it sold the LONG of "long way home" better than the most.

Minor nitpick- the jump arc was a bit shorter than the actual jump. I got used to it, but it was a bit misleading at first.

The graphics and sound were ok. The slurping sound when the fish landed in water was pretty funny. At some point there was a strange sound in a background (like a saw?).

Over all- VERY enjoyable gameplay! Keep at it!

Developer

Thanks for playing  ! and finishing it even with the difficulty.:) Yeah i should have made the arc just a small line i think that would have been better ! i think the saw sound is probably when i have multiple bird close it make a stange noise . Thannks for the review !:)
