I like the story that's given but I'll admit a part of me wanted more context or to find more clues as to what actually happened. I agree with Flaming Teddy that the controls felt a little awkward, but being left-handed actually made it a bit easier for me to adjust to it. While I admit that there didn't necessarily need to be music, the lack of sound cues was slightly off-putting because other than the initial encounter with the ghost, it stopped being scary and just became a standard obstacle. I completely understand not having the time with a college schedule; this doesn't negatively impact the game terribly (after all, it has a coherent story and all the mechanics work well), but the game DOES feel like something is missing to it. If you decide to come back to this, I think just a little bit of extra lore or context and a couple of additional sounds will make this feel way more complete.
Appreciate the feedback. Would love to add more sounds and music if I ever go back to this. Thanks for playing!
Reminds me a lot of old newground games of years past with its presentation. I'm not too keen that the only audio was the guy's rather loud footsteps and knife sfx was rather shrill. Weirdly enough the ghost we see gets no audio cue, especially for when it shows up and we have to hide from it. The controls also felt rather unintuitive, as I had to splay my hand rather uncomfortably in order to use the walk keys and keep a finger on the interact key. Might be better to make E the interact key instead of F if y'all work on this again in the future.
The pixel art style is cute, I think especially the characters and their animations are well-done and are nice to look at! Walking feels good too, I usually hate walking in games but I guess the walk step sound effect was addictive enough to keep me going. A short game with personality.
Thank You!
The storytelling was much more interesting than I would have expected, it kinda had me hooked to the game. These long distances to run are not really my type of fun gameplay elements and the visuals are really simple but as you said you didn't have much time so I totally get it. You still managed to create a pretty interesting story so congrats for that!
While playing I kinda thought "how could this game be more interesting" and it kinda led me to the idea of a point&click adventure game like monkey island and stuff, with dreams being some type of main gameplay elements. Then you would have something to do while running those long distances, interacting with the environment and trying new combinations to get new information or new paths and stuff like that. Just food for thought :D
Thanks for playing! I wanted to fill up the environment with more monster interactions and bits of lore so it wouldn't be boring to walk through, no time for that unfortunately. Glad you liked the story though, it's the main focus of the game so I'm happy to see it holds up a bit
A neat and simple game. It's a little easy to skip the dialogue boxes sometimes.
If you work on it further, I think it has a lot of potential if you added in some more music and sound effects, and some extra dialogue.
Thanks for the feedback! Our game is definitely lacking in those areas so I wish we had the time to work on it.
