Short and sweet! I love the orchestration in this. I would agree to have it be just a bit longer for more emotional affect, but it stands very tightly on its own. Very well done -- your schoolwork is showing.

Very awesome work! Love everything about this track, the orchestration and arrangements sound amazing, love the way you approched the harmony and lydian mode very fun and interesting track! This gave me a Ghlibi vibe also! Great work!! :D

Host

I really enjoyed this piece, it has a lot of interesting ideas.

In particular, I liked:
- The use of female choir fades at the beginning immediately establish a strong identity and otherworldly atmosphere.
- The use of Triplets/tuplets throughout gives this piece a distinct identity.

Some points for consideration for future work:

-The flying rhythm usually needs to be more staccato (it feels a bit too connected right now), experiment a bit with the articulation. Or even tempo might help here actually, it feels a bit slow for some reason - I think a tad bit faster might help it give it that "oomph" that you would expect from flying.

-This piece would’ve benefited from being longer. In particular, the motif at 15 seconds in could’ve been expanded with a few variations. (Not all pieces need to be long though, some pieces can be short, but in this case I think it would benefit from being longer.)

-The ending might have also been more interesting if you bring parts from earlier in the piece to re-emphasize them.(For instance, you started with a female choir, and you can end with a female choir as you’ve already kind of established that kind of texture before.

Since you're an author, I think it might be similar to thinking in terms of writing: you've established a scene and some elements, and you can choose  re-use the elements that have already been established and make sense within the universe you've created. (or introduce new elements too - but in this case I think it's a strong move sometimes to end in a similar fashion that it begins. Something to think about at least!))

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the notes! I agree with your points, especially regarding structure and developing the ideas further. Ironically, I dashed out what's functionally a sketch in a quick session because I'm buried under orchestration homework for school. (I'm in a part-time orchestration/composition MFA. /o\ ) I'm hoping that when schoolwork calms down I can revisit this with your comments in mind. I really appreciate the time you took to give such detailed feedback and suggestions, and thank you for your work and generosity hosting this music jam!

This is gonna be random, but do you remember the Scene it board games? This kind of felt like opening one of those haha.

I had to do an internet search and now I wish I'd encountered those board games - they look fun! Thank you. :)

Very nice orchestration, gives me a sunny morning on a magical broomstick flight kinda vibe, I like the triumphant tone the trill at the end lends to it.

Thank you! Now if only I had a magical broomstick in real life... :)
