Simple no frills. I would love a player that supports network shared folders though. Don't want to store video files directly to device or removable media.
You can mount Samba shares via the Konsole terminal using something like this: sudo mount.smb3 //<server-ip>/<some-folder> /home/steamos/Videos -o vers=3.1.1,username=<username>,password=<password>
What @nielsek said should work in your case. Make the Frame be network connected so it shows your files like local files (look into "network mounts"), then use MatineeVR to play those "local-but-not" files and it all should work! :)
