Best graphics, the retro vibes and the characters here are WOW.
The SFX are great, the rain sound is really cool and relaxing XD
Great work!!
A big retro fan here. Love the graphics. Well done!
ANSI graphics. So very very cool. Way to retro bro!
The game play is excellent, the music and sound were perfect. The story was excellent.
I could eat ole Jake but Mia kept running away. Then I would get the retry button
Thanks for the great fun
I enjoyed this very much. I love games where you are the monster like this and it reminds me a lot of an old game I used to play that was a similar click progression playstyle of attacking the people in the scene without being caught. The text art style was extremely cool too, especially the animations you brought to life. Incredible all around for a solo dev. Very well done. The ending was a nice touch too.
Really enjoyed this, sadly trying to pause at somepoint in the second house the game crashed (audio still played) so I decided to call it there.
I killed the Dad then the Mom after putting one of the children on the stool, then when the Mum was discovered I tried to pause and crash...
Thanks for playing and for the detailed steps! They led me straight to the bug: pausing during the escape after a body is found caused the game to freeze. It's fixed now, and I really appreciate it!
: )
Excellent, also, LOVED the art style so cool, how did you achieve it, some package/plugin that turns shapes/sprits into ASCII?
Cheers! It’s a custom pipeline: the characters are animated 3D models, rendered in Three.js and baked into ASCII sprite frames. Brightness determines the shading characters, while edge detection picks characters like
/,|and-to preserve the outlines. The rooms and furniture are built directly from characters, then a WebGL post-processing pass adds glow, scanlines and CRT screen curvature.: )
A really great story!
I recommend it to everyone
I really liked the unique design, and the music is very atmospheric, too. Having to repeat actions after failing gets a bit tedious, but it’s not a major issue. And the ending is absolutely brilliant—it was 1,000% worth playing through!
Thanks a lot for the game.
🎃Happy Halloween) 🎃
Thank you for the kind words! Thrilled the ending made it worth it. Happy Halloween! 🎃
🎬 I made a let's play of your game!
▶ Watch: Treat Yourself, let's play (19 min)
You can see all my reactions, and the great ending too.
Thank you so much for recording the playthrough! Watching it helped me spot a lot of things I can improve, and it was super interesting to see you come up with solutions I never even thought of while making and testing the game. Really appreciate it!
