Thanks! C&C was a big influence. Try a match against Bot-Hard and tell me how the belts feel compared to classic RTS controls.
tried it out about 10 times.
it is pretty laggy for me, I played it on brave browser.
it probably plays pretty in player vs player but it seemed pretty impossible to fight a normal or hard player. It looks like they start with about 6x cash and some instantly built buildings. In such a short game there isnt really any time for strategy to overtake such a large starting advantage.
I can imagine there are lots of different things you could add to expand the idea, its a good start.
I didnt really have any issues with controls
Oh is there away to sign up for a notification that tells you when someone posted a match? then you could hop on and play even if you are not sitting on the screen
Thanks a lot!
Quick notes from the dev side:
• The bots play with exactly your economy: 300 gold + 2000 build capital. The capital pays for buildings ×10 faster, so spend it all at once with F2.
• New release 0.70 makes the capital obvious and paces Normal/Hard's opening.
• If you get lag, try Settings → Light graphics and turn on Show FPS. It tells us whether it's the FPS or the connection.
• New: a bell in the War Council calls you when a rival posts a match, as long as the tab is open.
Tried again and had better result, maybe i was just tired last night lol.
Some other thoughts:
Some thing i liked a lot in the command and conqour was units that lived and killed other units would get upgraded to like general or commander.
If you do start a discord you could have a match notification channel.
SOme of your descriptions dont come across quite right. I definitely did not understand that the buildings inside capital were 10 times cheaper than building them in other lands.
I was like how is the hardbot empire getting like 3000 empire wealth in the first 20 seconds. Once i realized the buildings were cheaper inside capital i was able to beat hardbot.
Thanks so much for giving it another go, and for writing all this up! Really glad the second session went better (late-night RTS is a tough opponent on its own 😄).
The build capital: you’re absolutely right, and that’s on us. The wording doesn’t come across. “Capital” isn’t a place. It’s a starting fund of 2000 that pays for buildings only. Whatever it pays for, anywhere on the map, goes up 10× faster, not cheaper. That’s also why Hard’s Empire chart shoots up so fast: it spends its whole fund in the first few seconds and everything rises at once. You start with exactly the same, so you found the real trick: spend it right away. We’re reworking the name and the explanations so the next player doesn’t have to work it out the hard way. Thanks for pointing it out so clearly.
Veteran units: love that idea. Seeing a unit that survived three fights become a sergeant or a commander gives you someone to root for. It isn’t on our list yet. We’d need to be careful it doesn’t snowball whoever wins the first clash. A visible rank might come first, before any stat bonus.
Discord: match notifications in a channel are already on our roadmap, together with Discord sign-in. If we open a server, a match-feed channel would be one of the first things in it.
Thanks again for the detailed feedback. It’s exactly what helps most at this stage. Hope to see you in the arena again!
