Made a chess game with Tiny Swords! 🏰

Tiny Swords Chess is turn-based chess where Pixel Frog's units are the pieces: pawns, archers as bishops, horsemen as knights, towers as rooks, a berserker queen and Warfare's King. They run between squares and strike when they capture.

Five bots, from Pip (beginner) to The Red King (expert). Free, in your browser:

Huge thanks to Pixel Frog for the art. Feedback very welcome!

Small update: Cavalry is in. The fastest and priciest soldier, it rides archers down and raids, but breaks on a braced spear. That's another Tiny Swords character with a real job.

Thank you so much, this honestly made my day! 🙏 Tiny Swords is what made this game possible. The art gave every unit instant personality, so the belts and the battles almost designed themselves.

I saw Warfare, and it looks fantastic! We're already working on new characters for the game, and the siege units would fit an RTS perfectly. And if a dragon ever shows up in the roadmap, I'll be first in line. 🐉

Season 1 starts November 1. Thanks again for the pack and for the kind words! ⚔️

Hi everyone!

I'm making Tiny Swords Wars, a free 1v1 medieval RTS in the browser, built entirely with Pixel Frog's Tiny Swords.

My goal from day one: give every character in the pack a job. Knights and lancers hold the front, monks heal, workers power the economy, and the Wilds are home to the troll, the Torch Goblins and the sharks.

You command by drawing belts across the map: troops ride them to battle, and you bend them mid-fight. Conquer provinces, push through fog of war, raze the rival castle.

It's playable now in your browser, and Season 1 starts November 1:

Which Tiny Swords character would you most like to command? I'll do my best to get them all in!

Thanks so much for giving it another go, and for writing all this up! Really glad the second session went better (late-night RTS is a tough opponent on its own 😄).

The build capital: you’re absolutely right, and that’s on us. The wording doesn’t come across. “Capital” isn’t a place. It’s a starting fund of 2000 that pays for buildings only. Whatever it pays for, anywhere on the map, goes up 10× faster, not cheaper. That’s also why Hard’s Empire chart shoots up so fast: it spends its whole fund in the first few seconds and everything rises at once. You start with exactly the same, so you found the real trick: spend it right away. We’re reworking the name and the explanations so the next player doesn’t have to work it out the hard way. Thanks for pointing it out so clearly.

Veteran units: love that idea. Seeing a unit that survived three fights become a sergeant or a commander gives you someone to root for. It isn’t on our list yet. We’d need to be careful it doesn’t snowball whoever wins the first clash. A visible rank might come first, before any stat bonus.

Discord: match notifications in a channel are already on our roadmap, together with Discord sign-in. If we open a server, a match-feed channel would be one of the first things in it.

Thanks again for the detailed feedback. It’s exactly what helps most at this stage. Hope to see you in the arena again!

Thanks a lot!

Quick notes from the dev side:

• The bots play with exactly your economy: 300 gold + 2000 build capital. The capital pays for buildings ×10 faster, so spend it all at once with F2.

• New release 0.70 makes the capital obvious and paces Normal/Hard's opening.

• If you get lag, try Settings → Light graphics and turn on Show FPS. It tells us whether it's the FPS or the connection.

• New: a bell in the War Council calls you when a rival posts a match, as long as the tab is open.

Thanks! C&C was a big influence. Try a match against Bot-Hard and tell me how the belts feel compared to classic RTS controls.
