Description
The Song from this music jam I made : D
Used a lot of Foley I recorded from my phone

A list of Foley I used

A glass cup, a wooden stair banister, bottle caps in a half filled bathtub, and a tap,

But I also used some field recordings from my phone as well

The track is about going on a boat journey and finding your purpose. What that purpose is it’s up to your interpretation

As from my interpretation is about knowing that I can achieve a lot even with autism :)

Very calming, contemplative piece. I found it quite balanced and with the right amount of tension. Just found the rumble starting at around 2:30 until the end a bit disorienting, as I couldn't pinpoint what it corresponded to inside this water world you pictured with your music. Is it intended to convey wind? Great relaxing, ethereal work.

thanks for listening 🥹

I wanted it to sound like someone on a boat sailing through a lake and the wind was to give it some texture

Which I made by blowing into my phone mic

Sure, it makes total sense. I also found myself trying to recreate wind blowing to the mic in the past. Wind is however one of the most difficult sounds to capture with a microphone, as if we are too closely or directly exposed to it, it quickly saturates the mic sensor and instead of its "howling" nature we get the pure noisy variations of pressure in the capsule. In fact wind alone paradoxically makes no sound, as it is the air itself moving, but its contact with other stuff creates its sound, so in order to capture it we need to record its friction with other natural elements from far away distances in open spaces, and then we have the problem of other noises getting in the way (distant cars, insects, rustling leaves, the waves of the ocean, etc.), so not an easy feat!

Solid textures. I think the mix could use a little bit more spatializing and variance.

Near and far has as big of an impact as left-to-right. Far sounds are wetter with less delay, near sounds are drier with more delay on the reverb. Remember, dryness is just the ratio of volume of the reverb to the signal.

Great work though.

thanks for listening & the feedback 😀

I usually like keeping my production minimal and an experimental as I don’t really know Music theory.

And I usually don’t know what I’m doing half of the time when it comes to mixing I usually just mix until it sounds right to me

But also thanks for the response ❤️

Very ambient and experimental! But I like it. A lot of good textures in here. Solid work. I also like the name and theme you have. Great submission here.

I like the risk with focusing on texture and sound design as opposed to melodic composition. Great submission. I always love rogue entries like this.

thanks for listening 🙂

I usually like breaking the rules when it comes to making music (😈 Ha ha ha)

But I do respect people who prefer making music traditionally

This is some good Koji Kondo shit. It reminds me of "ocarina of time" dungeons. Very unique and experimental but it fits the theme. Some vfx are way too loud and some of them may need a little bit of EQ.
Great job.

Pretty unique atmosphere! From my perspective, the bird and rain recordings seem to be panned to the left, which feels a little strange since we’d normally perceive sounds like these as more centered. Overall, good job!

Developer

thanks for listening & the feedback 🙂

The entire track except for the rain has a lot of volume and pan automation.

I wanted it to sound a little more real hence why the birds are panned all over the place 👀

Nice textures,  very experimental and focused more on the sound design aspect than musical but its pretty unique, I don't know what is the low rumble but I think it needs some EQ just to help a bit. Super unique again, feels very aquatic too.

Developer

thank you for the feedback 😁

that low rumble at 2:14 was me attempting to make a wind sound effect 😅

which I blowed into my phone and removed pretty much all of the high-end as well as a lot of the mid range

Nice! Props with all the foley work. I like the atmosphere you create on this track. Some of the percussive and water sounds feel loud. The flowing water sound around 3:12 fades in  pretty quickly. You have nice and a lot of sounds here and I wonder whether using some of your samples less frequently throughout the piece would help get more mileage out of them. Nice job on submission.

I wanted some of the percussion and water sounds to be loud at some points and I usually mix at a medium to high medium.

I like how good the Ambient Sounds overall (Water rushing, Birds, etc.), but I'd probably lower the volume on them a bit. I do like how haunting the Soundscapes you used were, like the Shimmery Bells, but I'd also not have as much startling elements, as of the really loud water dripping & that.. (They were rather ditracting) just lower the volume a bit, and you're good! Basically, the volume could've been better in a few parts, but this is still fine work!

Very ambient and very cool! I thought it built a lot of tension through the foley sounds and I perceived the bird sounds near the end as a happy ending.
