Took a bit to get to grips, but after figuring it out it became a very cute little game. Loved it!

Very interesting game! In the start I didn't know what to do exaclty but I was discovering it on my own, I really like games that do like this, the artstyle is really cool too, it looks like games from lowrez gamejam idk if you've seem it. The only thing that it's not really a problem related to the game is that the game window on browser is very big on my laptop so I had to zoom out the page to fully see the game window, maybe you could add the full screen option if it doesn't break the scale?
Thank you very much! I'm not sure if I "consciously kept things mysterious" rather than just "stumbled into a confusing setup", but I'll take it :)
And my bad about the resolution! Somehow I set my mind to 100x100 at the start, and figured a fixed 800x800 would be more than big enough, and just left the full screen. Should've realised this won't do for any x720 screen of course. I'll be sure to fix it if/when I continue this project!
Really charming, I button mashed a bit but got there in the end. Nice work!
Loved the audio, music and art. I'm curious to know how you made it.
Thank you very much! Art is always my favourite aspect to work on. For audio I work in Reason, and on this game I've primarily used Surge XT, an open source synthesizer plugin, for both music and fx. The pixel art I've done in Krita, which works fine, though I should probably look into getting Aseprite.
Really love the crunchy graphics. It seemed intuitive, but I could seem to find a signal to match. sometimes the signal would work, other times it would not. And the color hadn't changed? Maybe I wasn't understanding the process.
Thanks for playing! It's definitely not you, it's a little overcomplicated. Basically, when you look at a signal it changes color according to the category of signal (friendly/diplomatic/hostile), and any response from the right category will buy you some time. But you'll need to scan to read the message and figure out the precise response. Get a greeting, send a greeting back. A response from the wrong category will get you a strike.
As is tradition I spent way too much jam time on the art and had to hastily string together some sort of game before the deadline :' )
Thanks for giving it a go! Its definitely not the most intuitive, the whole thing came together a bit haphazardly and I tend to lose myself in the art before I really have a game :)
To clarify; Scan signals to read them, and respond in the same way. Get a greeting, send a greeting back. Getting the manner right but not the precise response buys some time.
Its all a bit convoluted, :'D but thanks again for playing!
Totally love it visually! Really fun idea and I really enjoyed playing :) The only thing, I found the controls for switching the signals with the arrow keys a bit awkward, it took a bit to get used to it
This was an interesting concept!! I LOVE how the signals/vibes poped out with their colors!!
I think it was a tiny bit repetitive, I liked how calm it was but it also made it low stakes. Maybe in this direction, it would have worked better if you had to send actual answers between ships (kinda relaying information or lies between nations) for a narrative aspect!
Otherwise, maybe if there were tons of ships that were coming by faster and faster until you send the wrong signal and got destroyed (then u can compare you score with people).
Nice job still!! I’m very impressed by the UI, it clicked pretty fast, even though you had like 30 pixels to work with haha!!
Thank you very much!!
I can definitely agree with your points. As usual my planning wasn't great, so playtesting was once again kept to a minimum :' )
I wanted things to feel fairly relaxed as I thought it would at least give people some time to get to grips with the UI. There certainly were plans for moving signals, signal jammers, etc... but I'm happy I got it as far as it is, today was quite a rollercoaster.
The 100x100 resolution was something I for some reason set my mind to from the start, and as the game grew the UI kept eating away more screen space, glad you found it workable though!
Thanks again for playing!
