Really interesting concept! I would have liked a bit more indication of how much the ingredient I currently have would affect the heat level.

This was a fun game! the pixel art is great, and the temperature mechanic incorporated with the limitation very well. it really built tension when i was buzy looking for the recipe and preparing the ingredients while seeing the meter slowly rise up, and making it just in time before it boiled was satisfying. Wished there was some sort of mechanic to lower the temperature faster when i was watching the pot (like a fan or something?), and that ingredients could give a general hint of how it would affect the temperature. Great game overall!

Loved the little hidden post-it note in the tutorial, nice bit of world-building there! And taking a watched pot never boils quite literally for the limitation was really clever haha. I like how the pot had different boiling animations for each level. Juggling the temperature while getting the ingredients ready was a lot of fun, especially toward the end when I had to balance which one I poured in to maintain the temperature. And of course, the unicorn potion gave me the most trouble lol. Was pretty satisfying finally getting that one done! Had a good time with this game, nicely done!

This was fun, I love me a cooking game. The mechanics are quite intuitive and easy to pick up, and each ingredient being able to be optionally processed twice gives a lot of variety for the recipes.

I did struggle finding the right ingredients at first, some of them looked like they'd fit the bill until you actually chopped them. I couldn't find a trash can to get rid of an ingredient I don't actually want, so I sort of resigned myself to failing a bunch of times until I figured it out - then later I learned that you can just put an ingredient on top of the one you want to discard.

I do wish there was a bit more to do when watching the pot, or that it cooled faster when watching. The times when it was too hot and I needed to add a spicy ingredient could drag a bit. It might be nice to have some kind of hint what effect an ingredient will have on temperature before throwing it in, but there is something to be said about chance and organic discovery too.

Overall, good game, I enjoyed myself!

This is one of the best designed actual game mechanically of the jam! It's a great balance of tension to quickly switch between reading, prepping ingredients, and watching the pot so it doesn't boil over. I appreciate that the fail screen tells you your mistake, that's an underrated piece of polish. Bewatched Pot is also very faithful to the limitation and color palette of the jam, almost to a fault. Incorporating the limitation into the main mechanic of the game was a bold move that paid off, however. Incredible!

Developer

So happy to hear that you enjoyed the main mechanic and also that you appreciate the fail screen changing, they were fun to make and implement for both of us :D

This game was awesome! I especially loved that you had to make the potion at the right temperature, and the balance act of prepping ingredients while also trying not to let the pot boil over. Great work!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed :D

I loved this game! As someone who loves cooking, one of those things you come to realize is how important listening to the sound the food is making is to figuring out where you are in the cooking process. And I think this game really nailed the feel, with listening to the pot boil over.

It might be harder on the player, but part of me almost wishes there was a game mode where you could rely on only your hearing to make the determination of when to pay attention to the pot, like in real life when your eyes are off of what's on the stove.

Excellent idea for a game, and the levels were very fun and cozy!

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind feedback. That's a really cool idea and definitely something worth trying tbh, thank you!

Overall, the game was very fun, and I managed to beat every level except the last one :(

However, I had a bit of trouble recognizing the pot ingredients at first. It could have been clearer, though I did get used to it as I played. Sometimes it felt like I was waiting around for the pot for too long. Also, I couldn't figure out which ingredients heated or cooled the pot, so I just tried to keep it at an average temperature.

Thanks for the feedback and for playing

This was a really clever way to apply the limitation! I find it very fun to play and the art was so lovely, specially the pot scene, loved the details with the light

Developer

Thanks, very happy to hear you enjoyed!

Keeping an eye on the pot is so fun!! I absolutely love games where you manage meters, and that was woven into the limitation extremely well. The art is stunning as well!

Thankyou so much!!

Rahhh the art is so nice, the timer thingy with the pot honestly blends well with the ingredients, and i really liked how some ingredients make the pot hotter or colder? that was such a nice touch! made me really think which ones i should put first and what i shouldn't. completed all the levels and i enjoyed it thoroughly. good job!

Developer

Thank youuuu, CuriousRobin is very appreciative of all the love for the art!

Really like the art style. The game does take a bit of getting use to but after that it is pretty fun. Great Work :)

Pretty fun and simple to play! Love the pixel art. For the first level it kinda take a while for the pot to cool down so maybe make it cooldown as fast as it heats up? At least the customers don't just leave so I can take as long as I want to do their potions.

Thank you for the feedback and thanks for playing our game!

Haha, this is like third puzzle game I played today. Haha, my brain is toast. Haha.

That being said, this is probably the best depiction of potions in a game I've ever seen. I confess I did not read through the tutorial and ended up bulldozing through it trial and error. I managed to get the hang of it and wow, this is incredible. First check the colors (great pixel art btw) figure out if you need it chopped, or pestle, then check if it'll increase the temperature or decrease it too much. I think one of them still killed me when I was around the center so I had to trial and error it quite a bit, and ended up having to prioritize the crazy changes first.

The art is great, music is lovely and ambience is great. Gameplay was very very hard but I got to the end. I think it'd be nice to have an ability to speed up the time, perhaps a spacebar key that would speed things up so it'd get colder or hotter faster?

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much for the kind feedback! And nice idea for speeding things up :D

SO charming! Loved the artwork and style. I wish it had a little more info in the beginning to help teach me how to play, it took me a bit to figure things out.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We should have made the tutorial non-optional haha
