Really interesting idea here! I like that you don’t control the frog directly and instead influence it by placing things in the environment. Copying flies and using them to pull the frog where you want gives it a neat little indirect-control puzzle feel.

I did struggle quite a bit with the first gator though.

It moves so quickly that I kept reaching roughly the same point before getting caught, so I never really got to experiment much beyond the basic fly-placement loop.

I’d also love to see the aura system expanded a bit. Right now I could copy a bunch of flies, but once the little inventory filled visually I wasn’t really sure how many I was holding anymore, and I never found much reason to create additional gators.

Definitely feels like an early prototype, but the core idea is interesting.

More creature interactions and more ways to manipulate the frog indirectly could turn this into something pretty cool.

Great comment, thanks for your feedback.

I have been working on some animations/ improvements to the UX to make it a little bit more clear how the aura system works.  It's a stack, but once you get more than 3 auras in there, the game adds random auras that you've already learned to the bottom, so you never run out.  There are already a couple additions to the game that I'm working on - a new actor, and an environmental hazard - and also a routine that randomizes the terrain.  I'll try to put out another version close to or shortly after the conclusion of the jam!

(Also, in the jam version, I think the gator is too fast.  It will be slower.)

Yeah, that sounds like exactly the direction I was hoping this would go.

A new actor + environmental hazard should give the aura system a lot more interesting interactions, and randomizing the terrain could make each run feel much less predictable.

And good to know I wasn’t imagining the gator speed 😂 That thing was absolutely hunting me down.

I’d definitely be interested in checking out the updated version once the jam is over. I think there’s a genuinely interesting little indirect-control game hiding in this prototype.
