Nothing like a platformer to end the day, and this one is really great! It's the perfect heartwarming story to play on a gloomy day. It also has a few twists that brought a tear to my eye. Now I want to make pumpkin pies and pet the first furball I come across. The fourth level was pretty challenging, but finishing the game was really satisfying. Amazing job, Chloe and Theo, and thanks so much for this year's jam! 🎃🐈🥧🎮
Y'all made a fun platformer, with a really cute (and heartwarming) aesthetic and vibe! There was a good blend of ease and frustration with the platforming, and the pie always feels rewarding.
Thanks for hosting another great jam! Super excited for the next one.
Like the art, gameplay, and story. ngl wish there was music besides the title theme (like at least a boss theme). Still, good game!
The artwork for this game was done beautifully! I really liked how each level was a different location (loved the creek). The music was a nice touch and the sounds were cute. The spell power was very cool to use, and the story was done well too. Great work!
Simple but fun. You can never go wrong with a simple 2D platformer.
I hope Chloe was able to see the light of day in this jam, because there are so many areas, and all of them are nicely designed and visually distinct.
The boss was fun and a good finale. I think the Spirit Shot should probably have a cooldown, though.
The theme was definitely present, and the choice at the end was a nice twist, but I still wish the story was integrated into the game with more than just the page description.
The different ambiences added a nice touch to all areas that made them feel alive.
Also, please note that level 3 did not work on Firefox as it was way too laggy, but it worked flawlessly on Chrome.
Thanks Jo!! Would you believe that there was unused artwork and enemies with animation cycles because we ran out of time to drop them in?!
We again had plans for a little story at the start but.. time! It gets us all :)
Cool game, level 3 went super laggy and i had to close the browser.
I have 3 cats, so I'm gonna be biased with the review already! The concept is really cute and it would be great if the movement were smoother. There's something about the art style that reminds me of childhood aesthetics, and it blends in well together!
I am so bad at platformers but a sucker for kitties and cute art, so naturally had to try. I LOVE the little meows, adorable!! Distracted me from my inevitable doom (through no fault of the game mechanics).
If you think you can bribe me with cute cats then you are so right
Concept: funny coincidence, our first idea was also about necromancy of a beloved pet just with point and click gameplay. Nice to see that someone actually made it!
Gameplay: it's some good old fashioned platforming, nothing groundbreaking but it works. The levels are a bit too samey but there is just enough to be engaging yet not get boring. On many levels it was hard to tell what can be stood on and what not, the platforms blended in with the background too mush at places. More contrast between the background and foreground objects could I think solve this pretty well. The rat bossfight was great it had a simple premise, but turned out really fun with the clever level design combined with the available moveset.
Art: Chloe seems to have been working overtime this year with all the unique background arts, they look amazing. Not sure if I've gave this feedback before, but I think the inconsistent line sizing makes some sprites look out of place. This is especially prevalent on the first level. This kind of hurts the coherency of the game's look despite the great spritework. The vfx around the levels and on of the cat are really good, like them a lot. The bloom is sometimes a bit too much though, there were places where it was hard to make out where the cat was.
Audio: pretty good, fitting all round. I liked how each level had its own soundscape, the game didn't feel silent at any point despite the lack of background music.
Very nice submission overall, your games are getting better and better each year! Thanks for hosting the jam!
This game reminded me of my pet that passed away last year, I enojoyed playing it even though I was having hard time on level 5 lol. I decides to kill the rat at the end the first time
who else saved the rat
i liked it a lot, it was cute, i loved the theming
one small thing maybe is that it was sometimes hard to tell if an element was solid or not, like the pumpkins.
I wish there was maybe something more in later levels? like the wasps were cool but one more mechanic would be perfect. Also movement didn't feel satisfying, I mean I did fall off platforms often because I would think I can still make the jump (was there any coyote time?). The game looks really nice tho, and I appriciate the different areas.
Also random fun fact: Slice Of Life is Dexter's boat name
Thanks for another amazing jam 😄😄hope to see y'all next year
The challenge level in this game is great! It requires some precision but it didn't feel punishing. I also wasn't sure how the challenge and/or variety was going to be increased near the end, but it had some pleasant surprises. This was a lot of fun, awesome work!
the cat is very cute.
I am so bad at platformers tho so i wanted to ragequit multiple times.....also the art is good but maybe it lacks a bit of contrast between the platforms and the background and/or decorative items.
Overall nice game !
> Submitted 37 seconds before the deadline
wow
hahaha i thought the same thing!!
great game page, great music, great art! (srsly, Mary and Whitley are so charming and well done), the lore is a nice polished touch. great game you two! :)
i ran into some performance issues, but it's a 48hr jam so likee...but also maybe one real constructive feedback note: i feel quieter sfx or maybe less 'punchy' sfx would add extra polish, like jumping and meowing and stuff. it's good sfx, but tweaking them a bit, even just a lil less dbs or a volume trim/ramp curve, would change the vibe a lot for me.
thanks for another great jam!! <3
Fun little game !! not too hard nor to easy (except for that rat!!)
Maybe some platforms blend a bit in the background but nice game and art !!
The artwork and visuals were great. Platforming could be a little challenging here and there, but the game overall was an enjoyable experience. I was not expecting the choice at the end, but was a nice addition! It was a tough choice!
Ok I Have Question: Is The Cat Just Really Small Or Are The Bees Just Really Big?
Anyways i found it a small but enjoyble experince htough soem jumps felt weird luck based and inconsitent also i noticed issues the sound effects jsut not playing sometimes or playing really late.
I think the necromancer theme could have been used more but its still spooky and the ghost cat is silly :D
