Nice short and sweet game, I like the folk tale aspect with the trickster.
I think the textures and UI could be improved but I think your game accomplished what it wanted to good job.
Video:
Thank you for the feedback and also thank you for playing!
Gonna try to fix the trees and some UI stuff among other things after the ratings end. :)
Thank you so much for the gameplay video with commentary also! It's always nice to see other people playing your creations and see there's no game breaking stuff happening. :)
Excellent game. The fear of being in a confusing forest and the constant paranoia are conveyed perfectly. I liked the overall mystery, and the scary elements are executed really well. The most atmospheric game in this jam, especially thanks to the sound.
Thank you so much and thank you for playing! :)
Very good game, sufficiently crunchy graphics (and sfx, many people forget that part). Quite eerie atmosphere, i liked the chase sequence at the end, solid entry!
Thank you and thank you for playing! :)
Ayy another fog related game. This is very well made, I love the pixelated graphics, glad it wasn't a generic "devil tells you do, devil betrays you" story. I wonder why you choose the npc with horns? And why does the guy wants the drum? Who was the guy chasing you? I have so many questions about this folklore based forest.
Overall, its a good horror game, through it could've used more environment storytelling
Thank you very much and thanks for playing! The horns for the characters was added a bit later when I started modeling them, but just felt like the first one needed them too :')
He is kinda like the "devil" but as in Finnish folklore known as "piru", who lives in the zone between reality and the "Forest's cover" ("Metsänpeitto" in Finnish). The drum is a shamanistic trinket, which holds the power to control the forest somewhat, and of course the chasing character is the shaman or "Tapio" king of the forest and so on. So kinda the "devil" tricks you to get the drum, and gives you directions on how to get out, but rushes it and you could get lost into the forest if you take a wrong turn on the last section, but yeah!
I had bigger plans to open the lore a bit more, but I ran out of time :')
If you're interested, you can check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mets%C3%A4npeitto a small wikiarticle about "metsänpeitto", because there's many many stories about that and I just kinda went on with the lore without any concrete plan during the development process. :')
Thank you for the feedback and I'll add some more storytelling when I start fixing some other problems also!
I’m not afraid of anything. But this... this scares me.

I genuinely tried to play this game, man. I downloaded both versions, and both throw an error. It might be an issue with my graphics card drivers. But, to echo what others below have said—Unreal Engine is quite cumbersome for projects like this.
Ahh! Bummer! :(
I didn't run to any issues, or anyone else playtesting while I was developing this, but Unreal Engine is Unreal Engine after all.
Thank you for trying though! And sorry for inconvenience :')
I’ve already had issues with the card’s drivers; in some games, it would just crash. That’s the fate of the "red" AMD camp.
Really cool little game! I really like the PS1 aesthetic. The use of the fog to make level transitions seamless was really clever too, nice work. All the character designs were really unique too - and well animated. All in all a great entry. Well done :)
hey fellow karma dev. Very nice game, I liked the setting that it's not a dark, but foggy setting. Also liked the "spirit" design, felt very folkloristic. the stones piling up was a good indicator. could've introduced further jump scares along the way. And I liked the talking sounds, very Banjo-Kazooie!
Thank you very much and thanks for playing!
Also thank you for the feedback! I was planning to do some minor jumpscares but didn't have the time in the end, and it made the game felt a bit empty because the ambience alone won't do it tbh :') Maybe I'll do it after the rating period!
Ahh, good to hear! I feared that the speaking would get irritating in the longer dialogue scenes, but glad you liked it! :)
Nice trip to the forest, even tho i got lost and was never to be seen again. But hey at least that friendly stranger i met got his beloved drum back!
Ahh, the forest claims another one :(
Thank you for taking the stroll to the forest!
Yupp! at least one of the forest dwellers made happy :)
Really neat game! Gives me lost woods/nintendo vibes. I really like the art and models! really pleasing aesthetic.
Is there a specific folk lore story this is based off of? Id like to look into it! I did NOT like being chased by that creature though ;_; I kept thinking he was going to show back up right before i got out
Thank you so much and thank you for playing! :)
Sure! In Finnish its "Metsänpeitto", but here's a short wiki article which explains it pretty well, if you want to check it out!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mets%C3%A4npeitto
Ahh! I tried to make the chase sequence as tight as possible and had a lot of fun with it, but glad you survived it after all :)
Torille! :DDDD
Found my way out of the forest! Great job with the game!
Torilla tavataan! :D
That's good to hear! At least I didn't break anything during the last bug squishing session x)
Thank you so much and thank you for playing! :)
Lovely vibe! Really nice game :) Love how you used the fog to hide the level transitions. The person that I brought the stolen drum had a very creepy vibe, which I especially enyjoed. Great job!
Thank you and thanks for playing! :)
I was kinda lost with the character designs because they were on the very late part of the development process, but glad you liked it!
Excellent game! I really liked the ps1 aetshetics, also combined with sound gave me amazing vibes.
Thank you and thanks for playing! :)
Well nice use of fog. Maybe you are already planning to create it's second part
Thank you!
Possibly in the future yes, if I can come up with a more polished idea for lore and such and it could happen :)
Thanks for playing!
Very enjoyable to play. The story was interesting, and the aesthetics fit nicely. Not sure why you chose UE though.
I've been using UE for several years now in all my projects, and I'm most familiar with the workflow it has :) I have tried and gonna try out different engines for different kind of games, because UE can be a great hassle in optimizing stuff and trying to make 2D games, and don't wanna be stuck in that loop forever.
Thank you and thanks for playing!
