Theme Interpretation
The single signal is the distress flare at the game start. A compass and GPS based on LoS to sky were to feature, but only the compass made it in. The torch, started strong but I could find no suitably spooky assets in my style.

At my third try I found the lost person, but didn't know what to do with them, so after a few seconds my followers closed in and killed us 😵 what would I do with them? Go back somewhere? Art was fitting, the music a bit too lighthearted for a bunch of people following and trying to kill me 😅
Rescue. You are meant to bring him back to where you started. The mobs will attack him too now, so you better have the ammo, gun skills or smart path finding strategy. There is a very effective tactic to this part of the game, but it would spoil the fun if I just told you it.
Mobs only spawn when you move BTW, it’s my concession to stealth.
I like piano, but after the first dozen plays, I’m deaf to it now.
Thanks for opining.
There could be some aiming indicator/crosshair :) Is there any ability to collect some bullets on the go, somewhere in the woods? I just run for like 4-5 times through the woods (sprinted all the way to hiker and bounced here and there with him later) and think I might have seen some, but no clue how to pick them (unless I misunderstood something and those were not bullets :D ). I also was not sure what to do with the hiker (where to run) after finding him, I tried going back to the place the game started, but maybe I just lose orientation too easily :P Otherwise fun concept, nice graphics (biased opinion, as I like this kind of lowpoly style) and audio. To make things harder some kinds of stamina when running could make it more challenging, right now when running and changing direction I could avoid multiple enemies running at me for quite a long time... Also, I tried shooting the hiker, it could be also harder if we could accidentally kill him (unless we can but I shot him too little times) to lose, or enemies could also hurt him :D (just random ideas, I liked the game otherwise)
Thanks for playing and sharing. Enemies definitely will hurt the hiker. It’s the biggest cause of failure, probably (I play test quarter size maps). That’s the motivation to not run away, which you absolutely should from those creeps!
I am able to return to where I started to complete the mission, with the hiker, maybe you left him climbing a tree!?
There is limited ammo to collect in the level, seeing it is hard and only about half a dozen on that big map. Your ammo increases and there is a reload sound on contact. It’s a nice bonus to earn xp from before admitting defeat and that you can’t find the campfire. Maybe use a torch if you are unsure what to look for…
Bullet effects are my priority, seeing where the shot hit. I was fixing on making mobs one hit for a while, so it took a back seat; along with a lot of opportunities to juice the FX.
VFX are easier than a base kit gun to point, and a cross hair. The latter I’ll make as an upgrade, and maybe make more levels with better mobs.
I liked the smooth transition between intro to gameplay, and the music set a really chill vibe, so it caught me completely off guard that were multiple dudes constantly behind me. Shooting does work, but there's no visible gun and also no reticule to aim, so it was impossible to tell if I was gonna hit something or not.
Yes. You are a Welsh park ranger, who miraculously happens to be packing heat. In DBD you have no reticule. I was going to make it an upgrade, like fixing the compass (which you just get base-kit now).
I was going to add particles for impact, but its blood and gore, and time. People said Valeria Márquez shooting looked fake, but yeah, I need to camp it for a game.
As for sound effects, it was either submit incomplete, or don’t submit at all.
Graphics were pretty and enjoyed the music. A bit surreal playing this as the show I have on is about two women lost in the woods.
Congratulations on finishing the jam! There are some things to improve here, like the overall lack of clarity on where you need to go. It's also quite hard to see the game in general, as well as the distress signal. Since the map is very large, but it's mostly trees, I couldn't even find where it was after multiple attempts :(
Was also quite strange that I though the game had nothing, but since I was sprinting when I looked back I had a bunch of enemies, that caught me off guard! Some sound effects would go a long way in improving game readibility.
Congrats once again :)
The TODO list on my last jam entry kept me busy until a few days into this one. I ran out of time.
I’ve played worse games, but their devs must be so sick of them not to keep playtesting. I’m petitioning to submit critical bug fixes, the exit is not where you think. The flare is your only goal. I took pity and gave you a compass, but that doesn’t work, which I also consider game-breaking. As well as the fog blocking the flair visibility when you retry…
🤞 they let me fix these, as I find it enjoyable, but I would, wouldn’t I.
