Traversing a brutalist hellscape to kill AM with a Gameboy? SIGN ME UP!
Those minigames had no right being so tense. A prime example of what slow, quiet horror should be.
Thank you! The model anime/pumpkin & org4smotron made is actually inspired by the Dreamcast VMU which is the Dreamcast’s memory card that slides inside of the controller;
Really gorgeous game with a sick setting. I didn't run into any glitches or soft locks, personally. Minigame and console command mechanics were interesting!
I like the idea that you can use computer by using the command consoles. And as someone also mentioned in the comments, I got softlocked too just by falling, and the elevator didn't reset (i had to check if you could fall!!!!).
This was a really well executed concept, the design of the area was great, though I did get soft locked on the second go around cause I got curious what would happen if I jumped of the ledge and the elevator did not reset, other then that good job.
ah you know what that is a good point, that is not something i considered, too bad we are past the bug fix window haha. glad you enjoyed the game anyways!
Fun idea! The console bits were fun, the environment was vibey and immersive in a scary way, the audio did a lot to enhance the tone you were going for, the animations were kinetic (really liked the slam into the floor at the start) - writing was also good.
I seemed to hit a bug at the console that kicks off the chase sequence, where getting killed by the monster spawns another monster in the hallway, which kills you in the hallway, which spawns another monster... etc., and I seemed to get soft locked out of finishing the game. I restarted to try and fix it but hit the same issue.
All in all though, impressive stuff, had fun.
ahhhrrrg, we will look into that ;(. Thanks for playing though
It happens! Game jam's gonna game jam lol. For real though it was fun, my partner and I jumped at the hallway guy!
This might be my pick for favorite jam game so far; the environment is the best part for me. You absolutely nailed the brutalist architecture, and I know for a fact it's not easy. The lighting is something I love too; it felt very intentional. If I had some minor nitpicks that I can throw at you (that could be included in a post-jam update), I think the reticle should be hidden when on the computer since that took me out of it a bit; the typing noise felt a bit off, and you probably could've used more realistic keystroke sounds. The programmer part of my brain kept on making me write "read log1.txt" instead of "open". Again, those are nitpicks, and I'm pointing them out because I like the game, good job!
good point about the files, we have a list of synonyms that work for all commands in the code but read isnt one of them unfortunately, for reading files we have:
"open", "cat", "execute", "view", "run"
I did also think about the reticle being hidden but we had so much more important stuff we had to do first that it never got done, we also had realistic keystroke sounds at first but they were replaced. I'm glad you liked the game and i cant wait to try yours out!
"why bother doing this jam in the first place" - you to me in the discord.
Not my genre of game. Don't be rude to people.
This game was awesome! You've absolutely nailed the aesthetic - the dystopian brutalist architecture is so well executed and really gives you a sense of scale and loneliness in the world. The environment itself is half the world building - very impressive. You've basically made 2 games in 1 here too, with the terminal minigame! I can totally see this becoming a full game. Add some more levels and get it on Steam.
Just thought I'd let you know, the credits seem to be broken. It looks like you've entered markdown but it's just showing up as plain text. Other than that, can't believe how polished this is! Really nice work :)
Good game! Had some bugs for sure such as clipping through the console and one of the items falling through. but I'm sure you can get these fixed before the fix window ends. I found it quite funny that I didn't realise that I was crouching the whole time after the second console so I when the monster was chasing me I was thankfully under its catch hitbox. Silly me!
Really liked the theme of the game and the aesthetic, good work!
Thank you for the bug reports, these bugs were indeed fixed, hopefully you cant duck under the monster hitbox anymore, im glad you liked the game!
The monster looked kinda out of place for the game in my opinion. The pickable item fell through the floor and when the elevator fell I got clipped through the ceiling and was left scared on top of one of the door ledges..
I really enjoyed the experience but I wouldn't wish to do those minigames again. Performance was good except for when i was looking at the terminal noise effect.
yeah it is a bit out of place i'll give you that, time constraints and all. i'll try and get those bugs fixed where you can clip through the elevator, and the pickable falling through the floor
This game really tickles the part of my brain that is obsessed with BLAME. Some excellent megastructure environment design, and the terminal interactions and hacking system is very fun!
As others have noted I did find the short chase sequence to be a bit tension-breaking, I feel that the game may work better without that aspect. But the vibes are immaculate, wonderful job :)
Game features a strong atmosphere, although my laptop was mildly struggling so some minigames felt harder than they should've been. I also agree with most other commenters opinions
dude this game is AWESOME!
so far my favourite game this jam! if i didn't know, i wouldn't even be able to tell that this was a game jam (besides the short runtime).
love the little tricks you can use to speed up typing like using "hack" instead of "bruteforce" and not having to type the filename extensions.
environment is great. you did so much using so little. the sectiosn where you are on the ledge just this close to falling into the abyss are really great! and the parts with the windows where you can see the other buildings outside is so cool!
i have to know how you decided to do those elevators bc they were flawless! (except that you can clip yourself in the geometry if you press yourself against the open door). is it a thing where the whole environment is moving and the elevator is stationary? or did you like reparent the player to the elevator while it's moving?
downloaded, but then it crashed as it finished loading into what I assume was the game, not the onboarding menus.
I reinstalled and it worked!
phew. Worth the effort. this is awesome
Typing is very satisfying haha
How are you supposed to know the missing digits for the 3rd door? I tried 111.991.99.111, but that didn't do it.
the digits for the third door are a bit bugged, the decal wouldnt display properly and i couldnt fix it being stretched in half like that. so the code is 111.221.99.111
I'd wager this is one of the best submissions to this jam
Everything is great, the only thing I didn't like is the chase. I feel like it removed all tension I had, and being just a "press W for 15 seconds" type of chase, it did add anything in terms of scare, since there was no fear of loosing. Maybe it should've been a stealth sequence instead, but I assume you were low on time so
That was amaaaaaazing. I love the brutalism, I love the computer terminal. The minigame is fun (the third one was brutal, I failed that but was somehow allowed to continue) and the whole vibe is so sick. I assume the funny formated credits are on purpose? :D Wasn’t sure if that’s part of what’s the game about or a glitch. I had some lags here and there, but for a jam game this was mighty impressive.
Excellent game! I loved every aspect, although you can easily fall into the void.
Ah thats a bug! you're supposed to be able to die hahaha thank you for playing
“SALVATION”
Neat game!
I loved the hacking mechanic and its associated minigames. Some of the puzzles were really neat, and one in particular took me a while to figure out (the third door, I think). I’m not sure if I actually beat the game or not, though. I fell through a door that led to a hole, and the game restarted or looped.
I really only had a few minor issues. I’m pretty bad at timing-based games, so the hacking minigame took me a bit to get the hang of (not a criticism of the mechanic itself!). However, if you spend too long in the hacking minigame, the music or SFX seem to devolve into ear rape. I had to take my headphones off while trying to beat it.
Also, during the chase sequence, my camera somehow got knocked off axis and started rotating in weird ways for the rest of the game.
Overall, this is a great game with an interesting story and gameplay mechanics!
Great work!
camera rotation is a bug, will look into fixing it. I'm glad you liked the game! Not sure what you mean about the sfx, i'll look into it
