The game worked but it wasn't a smooth experience. It took a long time to load, and it stopped my FireFox browser from being responsive twice. The aesthetics are polished, and the game is enjoyable to play. The monster one-shot me though. I think it's OP.
I LOVE claw machines, so I really enjoyed this one. Great arcade ambience and vibes. I liked how sticky the claw was, made it more satisfying. Unfortunately had a few crashes on Windows and I was never able to get the browser version to load. I think the monster is what caused the crashes for me?
Overall very enjoyable experience and great entry!
I got really hooked on it and spent a lot of time trying to get enough money for the key :)
Game's pretty fun, a claw machine arcade is a fun aesthetic for a game, the claw machines are rigged and evil just like real life (this is a compliment), though I did find the monster hard to figure out at first , good game!
I like the setting and idea.
The monster's behavior was confusing. I ran and ran, then I hid, and he kept walking, then I played a game and he seemingly came out of nowhere and got me. I played a few lives but mostly died on the first monster encounter.
I managed to get about 75$ though!
Great style and visual presentation though. The large smoke monster with a ghost face looked good. The machines did as well. All the flashing lights were great.
Great concept and atmosphere. I enjoyed the claw machine mechanic/minigame despite it being frustratingly hard to get my prizes! (Skill gap) I did have a hard time avoiding the monster as I wasnt sure exactly how to keep away from it, I assumed it was just moving to different machines. It also wasnt super clear on how to go about selling the items you get. Overall a really cool game that I think a little more clarity would have made it even more enjoyable!
ps: I am one of the developers of "Draw for Mommy" I left a review on our main account however itch seems to not like our frequent activity and is preventing us from commenting on that account so I figured I'd leave my review on this account!
It's a little rough with the monster D: I've tuned it a little to be easier to hide, hopefully. You're totally right on the selling items, I'm just not sure how to tell people it more subtlely. Maybe a toast notification when you pick up a prize..
Thanks so much for your kind words!
I'll check out your game asap!
Very unique idea! The map is a bit too sprawling in my personal opinion, I am pretty good with navigation and was able to find my way back to the start, but I think the game might overstay its welcome a bit with how much you have to juggle running around and trying to make money with the prizes.
I have a decent rig (4070 Super/7800X3D/32GB), and I was getting frame drops @2K from 180 to 149 at lowest due to the sheer amount of claw machines. Overall, really cool idea, just maybe needed a little bit of scaling back!
I can agree with the size a bit but I think it adds a little to the surrealness, but I did reduce the time you need to hide, so that mightttt help?
Also! I've made some optimizations further if you want to give it a go, and even a web build (with some reduced graphics)
Thanks so much for playing though!
Haha, I’m not even sure how my PC was able to handle that many claw machines. Guess you did a good job on optimizing! I love the vibe and aesthetic of this wildly big claw arcade. The clawmachine gameplay worked really well! I was almost a bid sad that I had to deal with the monster, I would have loved just to play my way towards the key but I don’t think that’s really a possibility? At least whenever I tried to play again after I escaped the monster, it came back almost immediately. If you could add a story mode, or some kind of timer that I can manage, I would play the game for a couple hours easily :D Or is something like that already possible and I missed it? Anyways - great game! Super impressive that you managed all that in just seven days.
Thanks so much! Yeah, honestly this Jam turned into "Well how do I get this to actually preform well". I've somehow crammed it all into a web build, that took some doing with emulating volumetric fog and the such..
My partner said the same thing about wanting to just play without scares, so I've added it! There's a Free Play mode now that should let you just go around and play, no spooks, only vibes, with a collection on Tab so you can keep track of your winnings.
(Also made the monster easier too, he was a bit too.. killy)
Again, thanks so much, I'll check out your game asap!
That's a LOT of claw machines, the game crashed twice before it let me load LOL
I like it, it's a fun twist on the monster labyrinth trope. I suck at claw machines though
Thank you!! I suck at them too, dw. Thanks for your kind words! I'll check out Lesser Evil as soon as I'm done replying to other comments.
If you want, I added a web export that might run better, along with a bunch of performance improvements. It's still a lot of claw machines tho lol.
