Once I understood how the game worked I had some fun with this! It was cool to chain the cards together to build up actions, draw more, etc. It could use a path to removing cards from your deck, as the pile grew very large and slows the game down a lot.

Historical Accuracy
Space race allows the player to fund, research and build toward a lunar landing. It does this using a deck-building mechanic. The cards are inspired by activities and events that made the milestones leading to a successful landing possible. Much of the game visual are drawn from NASA public archives. This provides a nice window into the era the game is based in.
Thematic Relevance
The game lines up directly with the theme of the jam, borrowing the theme as the name. There wasn't a much more fitting name, so I just went with it.
There is not, however, a creepy/spooky aspect to the game. I realize that this was a side-theme, but I didn't have the time to get the scope of the project there. I was envisioning alien-intelligence based cards to give the player the technological boost that was surely required to move the lunar landing from a Hollywood studio to the heavens above.
Disclaimers
The only pre-made assets I used, if we are talking code, were mine. I pulled some handy utility functions and a tool-tip control that I like a lot. Aside from that, everything is new for this project. And there is no AI content in the game.
